I don't know, after book 4 it just seemed to me that J.K. Rowling didn't enjoy writing any more. The plot feels forced and heavy.
Also, why did Harry's dad had to be such a bully? That he wasn't perfect, sure, but as he is discribed here you just can't like him anymore.

In rereading Rowling I find that I skip a lot of things. Possibly they need to be included because it fully forms the world, but once I know them, elaborate setting descriptions and character descriptions and the minutia of Harry's thoughts and feelings, then I don't need it anymore. I read a lot of the dialogue and the scenes I find most interesting.

The good thing about this book is that there were a lot of interesting dialogue and scenes to go back to. Most of it made it into the film, which indicates how well the filmmakers did in the translation. The things unique to the book I enjoyed are more of the memories (especially the Gaunt memories), Dumbledore's conversations with Harry as they go in and out of the memories and the aftermath of the Astronomy Tower. Interestingly, I felt really bad for Snape at the end as everyone was vilifying him.

I’m going to try to sum up my feelings on the book without giving anything away. I liked this one more than I liked the last one. So much happened in #5 that you were almost relieved when it was over. This book ended really giving me a sense of what was to come, and that’s not something I’ve gotten from the previous books. And I didn’t feel overwhelmed with information when it was over.

Yes, it’s a kid’s book, but it entertains me and that’s all that matters.
