I can't read this series fast enough, but I'm scared that I'll read it too fast and be left desperate for more. I am so happy to have started this series and ecstatic that there are a few still waiting for me to devour. The characters are some of the best I have been introduced to in the many years I've been reading romance. It's not too often that I come across a heroine I love as much as the hero. Together, Nevada and Connor are perfect and I think it's because they are equally capable, strong and determined. I sound like a fangirl because I AM... and proud of it.
Seriously, the storyline in White Hot was as captivating, interesting and action-packed as the first instalment. I was again, sucked in from the first word until the very last, and left extremely satisfied. It is so exciting to find a series this enthralling and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to come back to Ilona Andrews' stories. I can easily see myself moving straight on from the Hidden Legacy series and devouring everything else this duo has written.
I absolutely LOVE Nevada and Connor, but I also love all of the supporting characters too. Nevada's family are great and I've loved getting to know them more. Mad Rogan's team are so loyal that at first, I thought it was a bit weird and maybe even cultish. With each team member that I got to know better, I came to understand their devotion to Connor, a little better. I don't know if there is one already, but I NEED Augustine's story. I want to see him. I want to know his thoughts and feelings. I want him to have someone who will always have his back. Augustine is so interesting.
This is definitely a slow burn romance but I can't fault it. While I normally get frustrated waiting for things to happen, I found the pace that Connor and Nevada take with their relationship, perfect for them. I needed to understand how Connor thinks and feels a bit better before I could trust that he wasn't just going to use Nevada. Now, I know their connection and feelings for each other is at an equal level. I never realised it until I typed that, but that's what I need in all of the romances I read. I have to believe that their devotion is mutual and that the feelings of love are equally returned. With that Epilogue, I was left completely satisfied.
If you have not read Ilona Andrews before, I highly recommend giving the Hidden Legacy series a try. It was so good that I couldn't help thinking that if they took out the sexy bits, I would recommend it to my kids to read. Honestly, I would recommend everyone to read it, even if you don't normally like para-fantasy. I think this would make an awesome movie or TV series.
Now, I'm moving onto #3 Wildfire. I should be reading some of the books I already have loaded on my device BUT I can't help myself. I'm addicted...and I like it.

That being said, I love the characters created, I enjoy them separately and how they work together, the storyline is always interesting, the writing is gripping and I can't wait to find out what comes next.
The reason for the four stars instead of the five is that Nevada got on my nerves several times in this book. I got why she didn't want to be with Rogan in the last book, seeing that he abducted her and was kind of scary. But her whole speech of why she couldn't be with him from the last book (which was perfectly valid from her point of view at that time) got thrown out of the window, when we saw at the beginning of this book that Rogan isn't actually a psychopath, that he cares and has feelings. Of course, he has problems, he certainly isn't an easy man to deal with and I'm sure they will always have some issues. But he was great to Nevada so many times and she rejected him with no real reason several times. She doesn't seem to be able to trust him, or really trust the relationship they are building and it is kind of annoying, since Rogan never gave her any indication of a reason for that. At least wait for him to make a mistake first....
Well, that is pretty much my only complaint. While I love the main characters, I've got to say the best part about this series so far are the side characters. Her family, their interactions, Montgomery, Cornelius and his daughter are just so much fun and entertaining and fit perfectly into the story.
I am very much looking forward to see how the storyline with the main villain and the family's dangerous past come to play out in the next book.

I would have hated to have to wait.
Nevada Baylor hopes that she has seen the last of Connor “Mad” Rogan after the Adam Pierce case but fate has other plans, and we are so happy that it does.
We are also reintroduced to Cornelius Harrison of House Harrison, Adam Pierce’s forced friend, whom we met in the last story. Cornelius has come to Nevada for her help. His wife was brutally murdered and he wants he to find the person or persons involved in her death. Her employer is claiming no knowledge of why died, and threatening the smear her memory if Cornelius doesn’t let it go. The police won’t get involved in what they think is House business. So Nevada is his only hope for justice.
But Nevada’s investigation puts her in the path of Rogan since he too is investigating the death but for other reasons. Nevada may want to give Rogan a wide birth, but Cornelius is more than happy to accept Rogan’s agreement to work together.
This investigation once again throws Nevada and Rogan into the middle of the Conspiracy to destroy the social structure of House politics and take the current govement down with it.
And while Nevada claims she wants nothing to do with Rogan, it comes to light that part of her anger is due to the fact that after all Rogan’s talk about how much he wants her, he never once showed up to ask her on a date. Sexual tensions will hit a boiling point. Unless they are too busy trying to fight off mages or monster, these two can’t be in the same room without fighting or making out.
Nevada hasn’t been sitting on her butt waiting for her mad prince to not show up at her door. She has reading up on honing her own magic and while her circle drawing might be looking more Pre-K than Prime mage, there is no question that her abilities are increasing and growing stronger daily.
This time when Rogan and Nevada collide with the conspirators, it won’t only be Rogan making them quake in fear, and in the end, it might be time for a new House to emerge.
I loved every moment of this story: the wonderful characters; the world building; the action; and the romance. I jumped straight into Book 3 as soon as I got to the end.

White Hot brought some more explanations about the Hidden Legacy universe, and I got to know Nevada, Rogan, and the other characters better. The pace is fast, and there is so much going on. I'm in a magic-induced nirvana right now.
I don't know how the Andrews do it, but White Hot was actually even better than Burn for Me! The character development was awesome, and so was the overall storyline, with parts continuing from the last books, and many new happenings as well. The political intrigue was still going on, and the magic used to undermine the different houses was amazing.
Not going to say too much about White Hot, as I don't want to spoil anything - just know that the writing was awesome. Third person, past tense and plenty of dialogues that are both cheeky and deep, I just can't get enough of this world! The complicated family relationships, as well as the way Nevada learns more about herself in small increments just made the excitement even better.
The third book, Wildfire, releases next week, so you have a few days to catch up before then. And I can tell you already, White Hot is great, but Wildfire is somehow even better.
Rogan swore quietly.

"Nothing."
I glanced at him. Our stares connected.
Wow. His eyes turned a deep, bottomless blue and they were filled with need. It got away from him and now he was thinking of me naked. A woman would have to be dead not to respond to that, and I wasn't dead. Not even a little bit.
"Have dinner with me," I asked. "At my house. You can help me explain to my mother and my grandmother what happened to my work vehicle."
A hint of a grin touched his lips. His eyes lit up.
"Do you think your mother might try to shoot me?"
"Possibly."
"Then absolutely. I wouldn't miss it."

What I lovedI cannot say it enough; the characters are awesome. I could not get enough of them. I declare it now and without apology, Mad Rogan is my new book boyfriend. Not only is he powerful, he is also sexy and enigmatic. He is considered a psychopath, but their opinions did not matter. The only person’s opinion that mattered to him was that of Nevada Baylor. He would do anything to have her see him for the man he is and not he was perceived to be. I had fun learning what made him tick. I love the person who he was when he is around Nevada, protective and caring. Nevada Baylor is not your typical heroine. She is smart, feisty, strong –willed and independent. In this instalment, she discovers that there is more to her powers than she originally believed. I enjoyed watching her growing into her abilities after keeping it a secret for so long.I appreciated the dynamics of Nevada and Mad Rogans’ relationship. Their attraction is as strong as ever, but obstacles of every size, shape and form are determined to keep them apart. The sexual tension was so intense that it is a wonder my Kindle is still functioning.The story is packed full of nail-biting action, that kept me eagerly turning the pages as I needed to know what next would happen. This new case they are working on is proving to be more dangerous than the previous one. The danger, the thrills, and the humour made for an exciting read, but what gave it the extra oomph was the romance and the family dynamics.VerdictIf you have not started this series, then you are missing out on an awesome story. This is a series not to be missed, especially if you are a fan of this genre. Please note, however, that the character development, requires you to read the books in order. Nevada Baylor is not particularly wealthy and her magic seems to be developing but she hasn’t spent any part of her life honing it but more hiding it. Actually, Nevada is a truth-seeker, a rare form of magic and quite the prize. She tries to hide it much as her parents asked her too because everyone will want her and her normal life will vanish.
White Hot starts two months after Burn for Me and Houston was nearly destroyed. Nevada and Connor “Mad” Rogan, who is a Prime, were starting to share some feelings but she hasn’t seen him or heard from him in the entire two months. She is mopey but tries to hide behind work. In Burn for Me, she realizes her magic is more powerful than just being able to tell when someone is lying but that she can compel someone to tell the truth. The news is filled with a mass murderer/child molester case and she wants to help. She tries to disguise herself but we see the ripple effects of this decision throughout the book and move us to Book #3.
She also agrees to investigate Cornelius Harrison’s wife’s murder. Harrison is a gifted animal mage and he can’t get answers. Unfortunately, this pits Nevada against House Forsberg, a powerful magical family. Guess who shows up during her investigation…..Rogan. He is interested in the case and Nevada too. As they investigate together, the tension between this two is thick and the witty, fun-loving banter is to die for.
Not only do we get tons of Nevada and Rogan, but the whole Baylor family is back and you can’t help but love them. Nevada’s sisters are harboring some powerful magic too and as the story unfolds, Nevada and the Baylors are in a for a shock. I love how this book ends. It is a cliffhanger but not really. The author finishes the secondary storyline in White Hot but leaves new plot twists to weave and unfold in the 3rd book.

So, confession time: I read ninety percent of this book the night it came out, and only stopped reading because my eyes were becoming unfocused. Determined to not be distracted at work the next day, I left it at home (even though I could have read it during breaks). This was pure madness on my part. I regretted it instantly, and ended up buying the kindle version just so I could finish it. I have zero regrets about owning two copies of this book.
After waiting two years, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was afraid that I had built the series up too much in my head, and that I would ultimately be disappointed by the sequel. I wasn't. It was just as good as the first, if not better. All promises made to us were delivered, which is always a huge plus in my book.
In many ways I actually think White Hot was stronger and more grounded than Burn for Me. This is because Ilona Andrews (technically Ilona and Andrew Gorden) is fantastic at world building and structure. Each novel builds off of the previous one, adding complexity and intensity as they go. It's making me pretty anxious for Wildfire (I did not read the except for Wildfire at the end – I wasn't sure I could handle the mere two month wait if I did that).
A lot happened in this book, so I'm just going to focus on what I considered the highlights. (Seriously, don't read past this point if you don't want spoilers). The most obvious part being Nevada and Rogan finally work things out between each other. I say finally like it's been ages since they started their dance, but to the fans it certainly feels that way that way. I've always thought the two characters were good for each other, on a multitude of levels, so it's satisfying to see them figuring that out as well.
I loved seeing Cornelius again, and only partially because I love his magic (the ability to talk to animal? Yes please!). His plot arc is both fascinating and absolutely heart wrenching. I'm thrilled that we'll presumably be seeing him in book three as well (it feels like a safe assumption, since he is not one of Nevada's employees). The ending with him being a Pied Piper was outstanding (I suppose THE Pied Piper is more accurate, it just feels odd to say). Speaking of abilities; Nevada's sisters? Their abilities are mind blowing. I think they complement each other perfectly, and I absolutely adore that. Well done!
Watching Augustine make multiple bids to gain control over Nevada during the course of the novel was pretty interesting as well. I got the impression his plans had been more long term, but then upon seeing Rogan still hanging out he panicked and made his move too soon. The urgency and near desperation of his actions doesn't strike me as something Augustine does often; so instead it leads me to believe he was in fact feeling a bit of both of those emotions thanks to the other factors at play. It was great fun getting inside his head a bit there.
I think most fans anticipated the big reveal about Nevada, and I don't think that's a bad thing. We were set up knowing that Nevada's mother was hiding something during Burn for Me, and we also know that Rogan had figured something out, but hadn't said what. The indecision about revealing the truth or not was truly human, and believable for Rogan's character (not being sure which was the right course of action for her happiness or protection, both of which extremely matter to him). I'm eager to see how everything is going to play out in Wildfire, and am frantically waiting for it to be July 25th.
