Claire has her share of challenges. Like being a genius in a school that favors beauty over brains; homicidal girls in her dorm, and finding out that her college town is overrun with the living dead. The Dead Girls' Dance picks up exactly where Glass Houses ended, which is great since that was some cliffhanger! We immediately learn more about the hilariously, sweet, Shane, who isn't so hilarious or sweet with his crazy, vampire-hunting, biker, father around. In fact, his father causes a whole lot of trouble in his arrival and it's up to Claire to fix it.
"You know, I thought you were a mousy little thing when I first saw you, Claire, but you're not, are you?" "Even a mouse bites."
I think those above quotes perfectly describe Claire in this book. She's in even more trouble than she was in the previous book, and so are her roommates. She's scared, but she's determined to not let the vampires control her life. She still goes to her classes despite the threats she's sure to encounter the moment she steps out the front door. When her roommates aren't able to go out and face the night to try to save themselves, Claire takes it upon herself. Thankfully, she uses her brains and has a cop escort her, but sometimes curiosity gets the best of her and she makes some incredibly rash and stupid decisions.
We get to see a lot more of the vampire world that has taken over Morganville, and it's even more corrupt than at first site. It also becomes less clear who the bad guys are: humans or the vampires? There appears to be monsters on both sides and Claire must face them both. She must also decide who to trust and who can really protect her and her friends.
This was a fast paced addition to the series, and thankfully it didn't end on too big of a cliffhanger. I'm still eager to know what comes next for Claire, Shane, Eve, and Michael though!

I didn’t remember that Glass Houses ended in a cliffhanger and of course this one started right from it. Good thing my friend has the 1 book so I could read the last chapter.
I think Claire grows little during this book and comes to herself more but I found her more annoying than in book 1. She’s supposed to be this genius who skipped few grades but makes few idiotic choices. Like when in dark alley where more than one person has told you not to go, then what do you do? Well go in there of course because that’s the sensible thing to do. Or when she’s told to stay at home in safe she insist going to school. To a class she’s already read the books and spends the entire time daydreaming about her boyfriend. Intelligent behavior?
Also what is such a big deal with the age difference between Claire and Shane? I don’t remember for sure but if Michael is 19 I assume Shane is the same or close and Claire is 17. This was bugging me in the first book also but then it was with Claire and Michael. And now it’s between Claire and Shane. See how fast these things changes?
While I liked the first book more this wasn’t bad either even if there was some stupid things mentioned before. Guess I have to read the next book to see if it gets better than this since the first was better too.

I like these books. They're quick and fun, but ALL THE THINGS! happen. The city of Morganville really intrigues me, and enough happened in this book that I'm curious how it will continue to play out in future books.

But, once you do get up to speed again, this is a decent little book. Claire and her roommates really only want one thing — to be left in peace. But Shane’s father has other ideas, and once the vampires find out his plans, someone has to pay. I like the group of roommates, though Claire does tend to get on my nerves a bit. She makes some really stupid decisions. I do have to give her a little benefit of the doubt. Just because you’re smart doesn’t necessarily mean you have common sense. (I might just know this from experience.)
Overall, I think this is a good series. I’m interested in seeing where it is going. Maybe this time I won’t wait two years to read the next one.

Frank Collins, Shane's father, is back in Morganville, and he's brought some friends. A whole lot of friends. Bikers to be exact. All with one purpose in mind; to kill them some vamires. Frank Collins, never the nicest of men, went completely off the rails once he remembered how his daughter, Shane's little sister Alyssa, was killed, and following the death of Shane's mother, and he wants revenge. And plans to forcefully drag his son down with him on what is practically a suicide attempt. So, because gets involved and in some trouble, Claire, Eve and Michael get involved too.
I love these characters! They're just so awesome! Shane with his fierce protective streak and his loyalty, despite what he can sometimes get in return. Claire with her determination to save those she loves even if it risks her own life. Eve with her spunk, general fierceness, and sense of humour. And Michael with his sensible responsible side, trying to help but also keep everyone safe and out of trouble at the same time. I LOVE THEM! And we meet Sam in this book too, and he is just a sweetheart, even if he is a vamp. I do love him.
What I love about this book is how much they all have to go through. You'd think one problem is enough to deal with, but Caine disagrees, and chucks more and more on their plate. On the path to trying to sort out one problem, they turn a corner and BAM, there's something else to deal with too. At every corner something new, some things so terribly awful, it's amazing how they don't crack under all the stress. It's fast paced, with action a-plenty, and completely gripping. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Rachel Caine is a genius!

Allow me to clarify a point about the title and description. The Dead Girls' Dance is not a big part of this book, in fact it doesn't even occur until about 75% in and then it only lasts about a chapter. I really can't stand when authors take a small part of a story and then center their title and description around it. You go in expecting something and instead you get crap.
I realize I sound harsh but in a way I hope so. In this book I've discovered a few things. 1) I hate Eve, she's a bitch to everyone and is extremely annoying. 2) The arguments in this book are suppose to have a point but they are over fought and come off as stupid. 3) The author had the basics of a story, meaning the outline for the plot and the characters but apparently she didn't have enough so a crap load of filler arguments were added. 4) It all seems like it's trying to hard. It's that kid that wants so badly to fit into some group that they over act everything and come off as a bigger outcast then they were before. 5) You can have only so many slimeballs in a book before suddenly there are too many and it becomes increasingly stupid and dull. So basically I didn't like it. I'll try the third on out but if it is the same drivel as this one I think I'll just wait to read the others.
I can't say I recommend it really.
