Wowza! This book couldn't be more appropriately named. Horrors is right (not in the scary reading sense, but the devastating one). Geez, that was a rough ride, in all the best ways.
With Kitty's House of Horrors Carrie Vaughn went places I didn't think she would go - I was pretty shocked and now I know that moving forward in the series she's not going to pull punches. Kinda makes me nervous because I may just get my heart ripped out and stomped on. Isn't that great? Yes, I have a problem... lol! I just love it when authors aren't afraid to piss me off and just go for it. Makes every anxious moment that much better because you really don't know what's going to happen.
So in Kitty's House of Horrors, we've moved forward a whole year from the last one. The kind of surprised me, since the other books have been closer together (I even paused the playback to make sure I hadn't skipped a book). But, with all they've been through, I guess I'm kinda happy that Kitty and Ben had a good, incident free year. Especially since she needed it moving into this next obstacle! So... in Kitty's House of Horrors, Kitty's invited to participate in a reality TV show featuring the supernatural - the pitch she's given is that they want to dispel confusion and give people answers about the supernatural. Translation: supernatural is hot right now and they've figured a way they can make money off it.
So Kitty and 10 others (if I've counted right) end up in this secluded cabin being filmed living together for two weeks. And then shit gets serious. I can't really say much more without spoiling - but imagine how shit might hit the fan when lycanthropes, vampires, mediums, psychics, some magic users (warlock, witch, etc) and 1 disbeliever (as in, still doesn't believe in the supernatural) get together. Got a picture? I bet you're not even close to how bad things get...!
As usual, Marguerite Gavin nailed the narration. What can I say that I haven't already said? She's a great narrator and with Kitty she's at her best. Her voices have great variety and in my head when I think of any of the characters I gear the voice she's given them - she's helped make them real for me and I just love listening!
I devoured Kitty's House of Horrors - loved seeing some old favorites return - and I'm leaving it feeling a bit raw I'm so eager to start on the next book.
