Rebel was the suprise 4th book in what was supposed to be the Legend trilogy. And it’s own I have very mixed feelings about. There was something poignantly wonderful about the ending of Champion, when Day and June meet each other after a decade apart from one another. Even though it’s a moment without clear answers, without a glimpse into the future, there’s something beautiful about the possibilities.

This one was Eden’s story, as he finds his own way and purpose in the world. It hasn’t been easy, being the celebrated Day’s little brother. And he has frequently chafed at the bonds that his overly protective big brother has put on him. But as the story unfolds, their relationship changes in surprising ways.

As always, I loved the world-building. There were hints of the author’s future Warcross books at the end of Champion, more fully expanded in Rebel. It’s a world that has got threads of the merit system currently being developed in China, which makes it all the more frightening with its implications.

And June and Day… while this was mainly Eden’s story, it was also June and Day’s. They’d been apart for ten years at the end of Champion, and then there was even more separation before the start of Rebel. The feeling from the end of Champion, that they were meant to be, gets lost with the neverending half-relationship, all the time apart.

So I had mixed feelings. The storyline was good, but it just didn’t have the same magic as the previous novels.

My recommendation: Honestly, this was a take-it-or-leave it book for me. It was a good story, but it just didn’t add much to the fuller series.

Minus .5 stars— even though she was a major character in this book, I missed June's POV immensely!

I LOVED THIS BOOK OMGGGGGGGG— SHOOKETH

I love how this book fits in seamlessly with the series, when read all at once, rather than reading after waiting YEARS... but as it is Eden's story, it is just as much Day & June's. I loved how the book included the new narrator— Eden, as well as a POV for Day, of course, to include a bunch of the familiar as well.
I DID miss June's POV... but I suppose you can't have it all !

Also... i loved that Antarctica gave off SUCH Warcross vibes it was crazy! I loved it... it was like an Easter egg for Warcross fans. Although it seems like Lu leaned on the Warcross plot quite a lot, that could just be my imagination, as there were such plot consistencies, & a government implementing a similar system.
I wouldn't dwell on it too much though.
This book had no issues shining all on its own.

A beautiful end to a tumultuous, heart-wrenching story.


More RTC (possibly)!

Highly recommend for all of the readers who felt that the trilogy felt too unfinished; that it was cut too short.
Also for new Legend series readers! Definitely don't hesitate to read this fourth installment as well !
You'd be missing out on an incredible novel.

This book is basically a tea doily; it's nice enough, but completely unnecessary. Not only did it fail to add much of anything to the Legend series, but the way it closes on a picture perfect fairy tale ruins Champion's bittersweet, open ending. It largely feels like this book was a fun, nostalgic writing exercise for the author and was published as an afterthought to please diehard fans. As much as I hate to say it, Eden, Daniel, and June's story would've been just fine left how it was.

Legend has always been one of my favorite series, but now, I feel much better about the ending.

When I heard Lu was giving us a fourth book, I was very excited, because I did NOT get enough closure from Champion. I am going to be honest, I came here to find out what happened between Day and June, and Marie Lu did a wonderful job filling in those gaps for me.

I would award 5-stars for the ending alone, but she also gave us a fantastic story. The dynamic between Daniel and Eden, ten years later, was quite different, and I enjoyed seeing how they both had grown and changed. I also found the world they were living in quite intriguing, and found myself utterly absorbed in this story.

I am definitely in a better state of mind, as I bid farewell to this series for the second time, and I am grateful, that Lu gifted us with this book.

What a rollercoaster ride of action, emotions, and tension. The world of Antarctica and the level system was sooo interesting! I loved following Daniel, Eden, and June post-Legend series. Truly a delightful read!

This book pieced my torn apart heart back together from Champion...

Honestly, I was so nervous to read this book. I knew that it was the official ending to the Legend series and I had so many questions about June and Day and Eden that I didn’t know if they would get answered or not, or find closure to what happened all the way back in Champion, but I did.
.
I got the closure of seeing how two brothers who have gone through hell and back piece together their lives with both of them included in it. I got to see how June and Day’s relationship evolved from something so flimsy during their youth. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to one of my favorite stories, so thank you Marie Lu, this was amazing.
