Okay so. I am not sure if i've ever rated a wayward children book less than 4 stars... but I have to say this was was my least favorite. I was never really involved with horses growing up, and I am not sure if that affects my rating... but the hooflands, with all of its different species of magical horses, just... wasn't enough magic for me. There was no other magic. I am not sure which kind of world this would be considered, but being able to talk to horses just wasn't enough magic for me. I kind of adored the kelpie, though. Well anyway, I hope Regan finds the home for wayward children! I look forward to seeing her interact with everyone else!
Also, McGuire's book under the pseudonym Deborah A. Baker (the book which the characters are obsessed with in her book middlegame), Over The Woodward Wall was so freaking full of magic & fantastical things... and structured very similar to the wayward children series. Anyone who doesn't know about this & is as obsessed with the Wayward Children series as I am... ADD IT TO YOUR TBR IMMEDIATELY! Honestly fantastic.
I think maybe that one ruined this one a little for me. I am honestly sad I didn't love it. I liked it, sure. But not love. I do still recommend to Wayward Children readers!
