This is the last brother's story -- Adam. There are so many reasons why Adam cannot give his heart to a woman -- mommy issues, PTSD, etc, but he seems to have met his match with this blast from the past. Holly spent a summer in her youth exploring the wild side with Adam, but Adam cut all ties when he joined the National Guard and Holly left for college.
I like second chance romances. I like when there is a history that exists between the characters. Holly and Adam had great chemistry, and I loved watching this relationship re-blossom.
Another solid Animal Magnetism book.

Holly’s Dad is missing and she’s worried. Nobody seems to believe her since he usually disappears for weeks at a time every year but Holly’s gut is telling her that something is off about this trip. His girlfriend broke up with him and he didn’t call into the latest board meeting and he never misses those so Holly is worried. He’s not answering his phone, she has no idea where he’s at and she needs help tracking him since he could be at a number of places, camping.
Enter Adam Connelly.
Adam was in the military and is a great tracker. If anyone can find her father, he can. But would he do it? Adam and Holly have a history that’s been burned into her brain and one that didn’t have a happy ending. Did she really want to turn to the guy that left her in the dust, breaking her heart when he left? Yes. She didn’t have any other choice. She was worried about her Dad and she needed to find him. Her brother was overseas and didn’t think her father was lost and she needed to do this for her own peace of mind. To make sure that her father was okay.
Adam is tired. He’s back home after being overseas for the military and he’s going through some major internal things. He’s got PTSD like a mothereffer and he’s dealing with it. He just came back from an unexpected rescue mission that put him in places, emotionally that have drained him and he was injured in the process. All he wants is to be left alone so that he can catch some z’s and then deal with everything later. But luck isn’t on his side because Dell and Brady are in his face, trying to fix him and now Holly is back in his life and even though it’s the last thing he wants to do, he agrees to help her find her Dad. He agrees to do it but he tells her that he’s going alone.
She’s having none of that.
So off they go through the mountains together. Being together brings up a whole lot of things that they both haven’t really dealt with, namely the way that Adam left. The way that they ended things. Adam isn’t into the whole relationship thing because well, he’s not in a place right now where he can deal with one but Holly gets to him and he finds himself unable to stay away from her. Holly wants what she wants and Adam is it. It seems that Adam has always been it and watching them come together again after all of this time was a great way to spend a few hours.
Jill Shalvis writes my kind of romances. The kind that make me laugh at the same time that they make my heart sigh. She writes heroes like nobody else and I adored Adam. I wanted to eat him up and thought that Holly was a good fit for him. There were times when Holly drove me crazy but that I didn’t hate her. I just wished that she wouldn’t have let the men in life run over her the way that she did. I didn’t like that she felt she couldn’t tell her family that she wasn’t married anymore but I liked her family. I’m mighty intrigued by Griffin and Kate and am crossing my fingers, toes, eyes and anything else I can cross that they get their own story.
I liked this book and even though it wasn’t my favorite story in the series, I still enjoyed it and adored the characters. I didn’t quite warm up to Holly as much as I did to Jade and Lilah but I did end up liking her. I can’t wait for more from Shalvis. She always delivers my kind of stories.
