Again, it's been a long time since I've been taking a walk in The Night Huntress universe, and I have missed these characters so much! There was even a Cat sighting, which made me happier than it should have.
Leila and Vlad had already been through hell and back, and sadly, fate had more horrors in store for them in this installment.
Leila truly showed how strong she was during Bound by Flames! She did not break, but she had to bend.

Bound by Flames by Jeaniene Frost is the third book in the Night Prince Series, and it was so good, I read the whole book in under a day! Frost really knows how to weave a story, and with charismatic and dangerous Vlad Dracul as one of the main characters, we're always going to be in for something good.

Frost doesn't wait around to get things moving in Bound by Flames. The action kicks in only a few chapters in, and it's epic. I think Szilagyi has got to me one of the most vindictive, sinister and down right horrifying bad guys Frost has ever written; his actions are shocking and disturbing, and you're left fearing how far he will go. Frost really dials up the excitement with Bound by Flames, and I couldn't put it down!

What I loved most about Bound by Flames is how it felt like it was getting back to urban fantasy. Frost's Night Huntress Series is urban fantasy, but all her spin off books have felt more like paranormal romance, with a lot more sex scenes. I think there are only two major sex scenes in this book, focusing more on the story and the characters, who have their priorities right and are trying to keep out of danger and fight their foe, rather than tearing each other's clothes off all the time. More my kind of story, if I'm honest.

I did think it ended a little too easily, considering how difficult things have been up until that point. But I loved how it ended with a cliffhanger that will make for an incredible fourth (and final?) book in Into the Fire. Really excited to see how Vlad and Leila will get out of their latest predicament!

I really enjoyed this one! It was so hot and passionate. I am absolutely in love with Vlads character, even though I am pretty sure I couldn't stand him in real life! But as a book character, he's the best. I am totally aware, that this isn't a literary masterpiece and will never win any writing prices. But it's so entertaining and just hot action. You need that too in stories. I'm so glad there is going to be another one following this amazing story, because if that would have been the end, I think I would have to fly to Florida and force Jeaniene Frost to tell me more about this amazing couple and their story ;-)

Creo que Jeaniene es una de las pocas escritoras en Adulto que sigue con Vampiros, al menos es una de las pocas, por no decir la única, con la que estoy al día en sus libros. Extraño a los vampiros, me hacen recordar cuando era joven y estúpida. Ahora soy mayor y estúpida... ANYWAY.

La serie Night Prince es una especie de spin-off del spin-off, ya reseñé libros anteriores de la serie así que más menos ya sabes de que va.

Bound by Flames ha sido un libro en el que podía ver claramente los errores y seguir leyendo como si mi vida dependiera de eso. No sólo cae en el mismo recurso de secuestros a Leila, esta es la cuarta vez, si recuerdo bien, sino que cae en otros varios clichés que acepto en este género solamente, que si me dan lo mismo en Young Adult, creo que tiro el libro por la ventana.

Uno de los puntos fuertes en los libros de esta serie son los personajes secundarios, quizá la historia tenga una ligera repetición de recursos, pero los personajes secundarios y diálogos hacen que me entretenga infinitamente con ellos. Sobre todo cada vez que aparece Mencheres, porque absolutamente todos los personajes describen al vampiro egipcio como un ser un tanto imponente e intimidante, pero ¿la verdad? El tipo es bien raro y por alguna razón de vez en cuando me recuerda, muy poquito, a King Richard de Galavant. Mencheres se me hace totalmente cómico y le tengo nada respeto

Otra de las pocas cosas que le critico mucho a este spin-off, es que a Leila le pasan un montón de cosas malas, y en Bound by Flames creo que le gana a los otros libros en cuanto a desastres, pero la escritora nunca desarrolla, al menos hasta ahora, las consecuencias en la mente de Leila, no sé si en el último libro explotará todo y la pobre Leila tendrá una episodio psicótico gracias a todo el trauma que a tenido que pasar o será algo que solo siempre criticaré a la serie por falta de desarrollo.

Puedo ver claramente los errores de Bound by Flames, pero como dije al inicio, aun así no puedo con la espera del cuarto y último en la serie Night Prince. Otra serie que no quiero que se acabe D:

Originally, this spinoff from the Night Huntress series was supposed to be a trilogy. I was extremely exciting to hear that before this book was published, that Jeaniene Frost would be adding a book to the Night Prince series to make it a total of four books (makes up for losing a Cat & Bones book). I do give kudos to Ms Frost for writing the story that should be told and not just writing the pages/books contracted (and her publishers for letting her).

I don’t want to go too much into the plot, as there would be lots of spoilers. I will mention that is one of the darkest and most violent books that I’ve read from Frost. There are some pretty horrific torture scenes, but they aren’t written in much detail, so I wouldn’t let that scare you away, if you’re worried about being squeamish. There is so much else in this book, I would hate for you to miss this story based on that small amount of torture.

In Bound by Flames, we get to see a different side of Vlad that we’ve seen in the earlier Night Prince or even the Night Huntress books. There are two aspects to this. One, we saw a softer side of Vlad when he was talking with Leila and show her his vulnerabilities. We also saw how terrifying Vlad would be if anything happened to Leila. He would burn the world to the ground.

We get to see some of our favorite characters from Night Huntress. Mencheres and Marie Laveau both have larger appearances. There is also Leila’s father and sister, Marty, Maximus. Cat and Bones even make an appearance, but I would’ve loved to see more of them (never too much Cat and Bones). If you haven’t read/listened to Up from the Grave yet, there is a spoiler in this book. (I would recommend reading all the spinoff books in the order they were written in comparison to the Night Huntress books, as they do all tie together. Check out Jeaniene Frost’s site for reading order for the series).

Narration
Tavia Gilbert did a great job as always with the narration. She has done the narration for the entire Night Huntress books and all the spinoffs, including Night Princes. I love the voice that Gilbert does for Vlad with his Romanian accent (though I’ve never met anyone with a real Romanian accent to compare, but I love the way it sounds whether it is actually accurate or not). Because of my love her voice of Vlad, I actually like her better for the Night Prince books better than Night Huntress just because I love listening to Vlad (not that I don’t love her for Night Huntress too :-) ). I’ve got some other books from Gilbert on audio that are not written by Frost,
