This is my fourth time reading Joan Lindsay's wonderful Picnic at Hanging Rock. It never ceases to amaze me.
Lyndsay perfectly captures the Australian landscape as a character in its own right, cunningly walking the tightrope between modern Australia and British colonialism.
It's mysterious, abstract, whimsical, dark, and beautiful. A perfect work of Australian literature. It makes me more than a little homesick every time I read it.
