It pains me to rate The Everlasting Rose this way. If you've been around my blog the past couple of years, you've likely heard me shout about my love for The Belles, and my proclamations that it's one of my favorite fantasy novels at all time. So it's heartbreaking for me to report that the sequel fell so flat for me, especially as one of my most anticipated 2019 titles. My husband pre-ordered it for me as a birthday gift, and right away I was surprised to see that it looked significantly shorter than its predecessor. Picking up after the conclusion of The Belles, the story mostly featured Camille on the run from Sophia and her tyrannical government. I was personally hoping that this novel would go more into the backstory of the Belles, how their powers worked, etc. However, it was mostly just Camille running from place to place, a underdeveloped feeling romance, and a rushed conclusion that brought it a secret society that felt very rushed. I simultaneously felt like barely anything happened yet it dragged and I wasn't motivated to pick it up.

Overall: While I still stand by the incredible writing and lush descriptions of The Belles, The Everlasting Rose proved disappointing and not memorable in comparison.This review was originally posted on Girl in the Pages

The Everlasting Rose just about picks up from where the Belles left off. Camille and Edel and the guard Remy are on the run as Sophia is hunting them down.

Sophia has started making baby bell we and trying to get them re ash for beauty work and sell them off. Her new law is to be beautiful but not more beautiful than herself. Camille and Edel have to find Princess Charlotte in order to stop Sophia from becoming crowned. Camille finds friends but learns some valuable lessons on trust.

I really enjoyed this story. However I did find myself having a hard time reading this book. I did listen to the audio book and I believe the voice kind of made it hard to get through. The story is still really good. I look forward to book 3 maybe?

This is the sequel to The Belles which introduced us to a world that is obsessed with beauty and the belles who are able to alter based on their magical arcanes how you look. The favorite has run away and is determined to keep her sisters together and save the next generation from the tyrnanny of Sophia. Sophia is determined to drain the belles and control all aspects of beauty. She wishes that she can destroy her abilities and that the future generation would not have it. Their a special group called the Iron ladies who rejects beauty and who want to change the world to one that does not revolve around it. I have really enjoyed this series.
