Bored to tears. It’s not bad, it’s just not my thing.

The reason I stopped reading a lot of romance was that sometimes the reasons for the couple not to be together seem stupid and manufactured. Like they both require a smack upside the head and a stern talking to about the values of communication.

In many ways, this is a romance characteristic of its genre. For die-hard romance fans, I have no doubt it hits on all the good spots. After authors like Tessa Dare and Sarah MacLean, I'm a little more... demanding and picky. In all the worst ways.

Nell is a strong, self-possessed woman. Just the kind of heroine I typically like. And Simon is suave and charming, and watching those types of characters fall is the best. It should have been a knock out of the park for me, but wasn't. For no particular reason.

Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed this book. It was fun and diverting. But neither will I be rushing to pick up more Meredith Duran books. (A stroll, perhaps?) Nell, not quite vibrant enough. Simon, not quite able to form a deep attachment to. The sex scenes, not quite graphic enough. If you don't tell me what all the parts are doing, I'm hopelessly lost under all the pretty but vapid words.
