Cocktails and Books

I was preparing a blog tour promo post for this series and decided to read this first book to see if it was intriguing as it looked. I will admit, the action had me on the edge of my seat and the bad guys were truly, truly evil. The author had me wondering if our heroine, Evie, could trust anyone in her small town right up until almost the end. What I had issues with was the romance between Hunter and Evie.
These two had a lot of history. He thought she cheated. He leaves her in a huff for the military and never looks back. His leaving pushes Evie into the arms of a man who breaks her. So when Hunter walks into Evie's life again, I'd expect her to be resistant to the man. Want nothing to do with him. She is, for about 5 seconds, before they start falling all over each other. And Hunter thinks this woman cheated on him, but there he is quick to sleep with her again. It just left me wondering how they could hate each other for 5 years, he would flaunt woman in front of her when he'd been home before, yet when he was on a mission that involved her he suddenly remembered how much he wanted her. It left me not believing their romance, because surely if they felt this strongly now they could have worked through things sooner, right?
Overall it was an entertaining read. The suspense kept me turning the pages and despite my feelings on the romance, Hunter and Evie were pretty hot together.
