Quick Thoughts
1. This is one of those cases where the second book is better than the first. I enjoyed it a lot more.
2. Perry makes me mad sometimes because he's letting a girl cloud his judgment. Luckily he has some people who aren't afraid to set him straight.
3. I'm hoping we see more of Roar in the next book because I really like him. He's an easy character to love.
4. I'm glad that Aria has changed. She's stronger and makes for a much better character now. I hope she makes it to the end.
5. I'm actually excited for the next book. I can't wait to see where the Still Blue is and how they get there without dying.

These books are amazing. Through the Ever Night had adventure, friendship, romance and everything in between. It surpassed the first book and is my favourite book in the whole trilogy.

Contained in 341 pages, Through the Ever Night is a fast paced story with lots of realization, drama, action and things that need to be reflected on. I can say that it’s one of my favorite books for 2013 since it wasn’t what I usually expected from those book series suffering from the typical “middle book syndrome.”
The story started off minutes after the ending of the first book (Under the Never Sky). Aria and Perry saw each other again after many months of being apart. The meeting was short but kind of intense since you can really feel how they longed for each other. Yet, on that very first scene then, Aria’s matured take on things has already manifested when she openly told Perry that they should keep their relationship as a secret. Reason was that she wanted to protect Perry’s credibility as the new Blood Lord of the Tides. Although reluctant, Perry had to agree but in return, he convinced Aria to go with him to the Tides Community.
Except for Roar, Willow and some old lady, hostility greeted Aria when she first came to the Tribe. Although hurt and insecure and in a new environment, Aria struggled to fit in and find ways to prove herself that she is a worthy Tide member. While Perry’s credibility and position as Blood Lord of the Tides were slowly questioned by the Tribe members. Somehow, in the novel, he became insecure of his abilities, somewhat paranoid and I have to admit that because of his great love for Aria, he sometimes lost track of what should come first; his duty to his people or Aria. This is where I loved Reef and his band of men because despite Perry’s immaturity sometimes, Reef had always been there to guide and support him every step of the way.
In the almost middle part of the book, Aria with Roar’s company pursued her real mission and that is to find the Still Blue in exchange for Talon’s freedom.

Plot
The plot was very well written. The twists were subtle but engaging. Not too complicated but enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. Through the Ever Night gives us a more detailed scenario of the culture dynamics of the outside Tribes. The story was painful on my part because I just couldn’t believe that an almost happy family could turn out the way it did to Perry’s. Just because of greed, insecurity and incompetency, one brother and sister have to end up dead.
And of course, as I’ve mentioned in my introduction, Through the Ever Night talks about sacrifices for the greater good. Like Aria who chose to leave Perry because of her mission to rescue Perry’s nephew and to give Perry the chance to provide his undivided attention to the Tide community. Like Perry who after reflecting on his actions and Reef’s guidance chose to stand by his people even though his heart is crying for Aria. Like Liv (Perry’s sister) who chose to marry another Blood Lord even if she’s hopelessly inlove with Roar.
Loyalty was also the best points about the book. I admire how Reef and his band of men stood by Perry when almost everyone else mocked and doubted his leadership. I also love how Cinder, with his mysterious and not-so-good past, chose to remain with Perry despite the fact that they got into quarrels. And it was touching having to know that Cinder is actually doing his very best not only to please Perry but Willow as well.
And lastly, true love would always be one of the best ingredients for book success. In here, true love had always been manifested in Perry and Aria’s situation. There’s no question about that. But I’m amazed how Veronica Rossi was able to squeeze in Liv and Roar’s love story in the book without ruining it. Liv and Roar’s story was bittersweet. For some reason, it reminded me of Titanic.  Roar was just Mr. Perfect. Funny, witty, handsome and a fighter for true love. I want to hate Veronica for hurting Roar this much.

Characters
To make the book more beautiful, new characters were introduced. I love some of them and hate some of them. But the most notable thing in the book was that the primary characters of the book were evolving into better and admirable individuals. You’ll have a more in-depth look on why Perry, Roar, Liv and Vale grew up to be what they are, where they’re coming from.

Interactions and Dialogues
Again, there’s no debate that Veronica Rossi is a wonderful weaver of words. I like how she was able to establish a platonic relationship between Aria and Roar who were together for the most part of the book instead of Perry and Aria. Their relationship gives me this sense of comfort and pressure-less environment wherein you know that someone would always be there for you without fearing that he/she’ll fall in love with you in the long run. I admit that love triangle nowadays are kind of cliché.


Overall Impression
Through the Ever Night is a job well done again for Miss Rossi. The ending was satisfying with a bit of a cliffhanger to maintain the suspense for the last book. My expectations were actually exceeded because there are a lot of books out there which for some reason has a second book that’s only meant to be filler for the whole series. I am hoping that Warner Bros. who optioned this book will give the green signal and show it in the big screen. Oh jeez, if that happens, I only wish that the movie justifies the book.

I liked this one so much better than the first. Aria was a much better and more interesting character. Roar is fantastic fun and I liked his relationships with pretty much everyone. I liked the redemption of characters and how people had changed and gotten stringer. I like how solid Aria and Perry's relationship was. And I liked Cinder and his role.

Also, I liked the balance of answers about this world with the remaining mysteries I like will come into play in the next book like more if the kids from Cinder's pod.

And I enjoyed the pacing and action and the plot was interesting, tested the characters and gave them an arc but didn't draw things out too long.

It was actually a much better and more enjoyable book than I expected. And it's cool to see authors grow in their craft as they write more.

When I read Under the Never Sky, I was completely captivated by the world that Veronica Rossi built and the characters in it. Whenever that happens, I approach the second book with trepidation because I want it to be just as good--or better--than the first book. I want to be even more in love with the series after book two than I was after book one.

And you know what? Through the Ever Night nailed it. I officially love this series even more.

Told in the same alternative points of view we know from Under the Never Sky, Through the Ever Night continues the character development of Perry and Aria that began in Under the Never Sky. Aria seeks the location of the Still Blue--and a place to fit in. Caught between the Dwellers and the Outsiders, she struggles to find her place. She had a harrowing journey, both physically and emotionally. Perry, though, underwent some of the bigger changes--learning what it means to be a good Blood Lord and breaking past his quick temper to find what his heart already knows. Their love story just makes me happy.

But Aria and Perry are far from the only characters central to this book. Roar is back, his lightheartedness a welcome addition to the story, though his underlying strength comes through in his quest to find Liv. (Oh, Roar and Liv! Oh, Roar! Oh, Liv! OH. OH. OH, HOW MY HEART HURTS.) We were re-introduced to characters from Under the Never Sky, and they took on new--and sometimes surprising--roles in Through the Ever Night. We were also introduced to new characters. (Though, oh man. How I hated them. HATE. HATE. HATE.)

The ending leaves us with new revelations--secrets are spilled, and the world continues to change and shift, becoming more dangerous. The Aether and its storms are scary. I am anxiously awaiting Into the Still Blue, ready to dive back into the world, and hoping for a happy ending for all involved.

I remember when I wrote my review for Under the Never Sky, I felt a little disappointed, yet I couldn't remember what I was disappointed about until re-reading my review. All I really remembered was reading a book that I really enjoyed. So after reading a number of positive reviews for Through the Ever Night, I was excited to read it myself. And I loved it!

The Aether is behaving unpredictably. Winter is over, and so the Aether should be calming down, but instead, it's getting worse, with storms striking every few days. Finding the Still Blue has never been more important, lives depend on it, so Aria makes the decision to go off and search out information about it, with the help of Roar. Now Blood Lord of the Tides, Perry has to stay at the compound and look after his people, whose lives are getting all the more difficult with the damage caused by the Aether. However, the Tides are beginning to doubt Perry because of his association with Aria, and Perry discovers leading the Tides isn't easy.

Aria and Perry don't spend as much time together in this book as they did in Under the Never Sky, as they both have different responsibilities, but they're both finding their individual tasks more difficult than they thought. It was brilliant to see each character away from the other, seeing just how strong they are on their own, yet just how much they feel for each other, as proved by how they struggle with the separation.

Seeing Perry with his tribe is just  wonderful. No-one could care more about a group of people, except maybe Aria. He has a tough challenge ahead of him, and it's brilliant seeing him take up his role and taking it so seriously, every single option thought through, and doing what he feels best for the tribe, despite sometimes being disagreed with. We get to meet or get to know better members of the Tribe, and find out exactly how the tribe works. Being Blood Lord isn't just something that comes to you with a chain, it's something that has to be earned, through the loyalty and trust of the tribe's people. You can't help but feel proud watching Perry tentatively  take his first few steps as Blood Lord.

Aria has come on leaps and bounds since her days in Reverie. She's stronger, more determined. She is more of sure of what's right; no matter who a person is, doing the right thing for them is what Aria is all about - Outsider and Dweller alike. Roar and Aria get on so well, they're such fantastic friends, and it's just wonderful the support they give each other at various points of their journey. Unfortunately, I can't talk too much about what their task involves, because it's kind of spoilery, but I can say we do meet a few blasts from the past, as well as a few new people.

I am so thrilled to say that the reasons behind the Aether and the Unity are actually explained in this book. I didn't really understand why things were the way they were when I read Under the Never Sky, but thankfully, Through the Ever Night gives a thorough explanation of all that happened in the past. Which is necessary because of the events that happen in this book. There is a great amount of action in various ways, and lots of excitment! A race against time, hugely sad moments, and powerful relationships! It's fantastic!

As I said, I loved Through the Ever Night, but it was only after accepting that I wasn't going to be blown away by this book did I really start enjoying it. I know that sounds strange, but I'm going to attempt to explain what I mean. I have read a number of dystopian novels now, and a lot of them have been so brilliant that they have taken my breath away. And there has been one I didn't like at all. The Under the Never Sky trilogy goes no-where near to being one I don't enjoy, but it doesn't take my breath away either. I know there are a number of people who absolutely adore this series, but it doesn't have exactly the same impact for me. There's something missing that I can't quite put my finger on that stops me from being completely wowed - yet I really love this series! For me, the series is the perfect beach reads of the dystopian world. Don't take that as a bad thing or a criticism, I love beach reads. When I think of beach reads, I think of enjoyable, light romances that bring a smile to my face, but aren't earth shattering. And sometimes, I'm in the mood for a beach read over a epic romance. The Under the Never Sky is the dystopian equivalent for me, and thinking of the series in that respect, it's fantastic! As a dystopian beach read, I adore this series, and I think it's amazing! Make sense?

An awesome sequel, and I am SO excited to read Into the Still Blue, the third and final book in the trilogy! If you loved Under the Never Sky, you definitely need to read Through the Ever Night!
