Jennifer doesn't disappoint! This book was so sweet and amazing and so perfect. That ending, even though I knew the ending because I read Obsidian first, still left me breathless and it killed me inside. I am so not believing what the DOD says. I just know they are lying. I've been reading nothing but good reviews for this series, and I was definitely excited to get started on it. I was expecting Shadows to be a short story, but really it's a rather long novella, so that was a pleasant surprise. It's a great appetizer for the series, since it did make me hungry for more! There's a lot of background information for the series which I really liked. It's always a little disorienting to start a new series, since there's often an overload of new characters, places, species, ect. I'm glad I did read this one first.

I love the Luxen. I've only read one alien book before, but this one is so much better. They're an interesting race, and I liked all of the tid bits we got about them in this story. We're also introduced to their enemy, the Arum. The triplets are also great! Dee is so funny and spunky, and Dawson is such a sweet heart. Daemon seems a bit angry, but I am eager to read more about him in the following books.

My one complaint is that there was too much outdated slang at the beginning, and too many similes! I just found myself rolling my eyes at quite a few statements, but it didn't really hinder my enjoyment of this. It ended up being not what I was expecting at all. The end is absolutely heartbreaking, but makes me eager to read more.

You know that feeling when, even though you know how a story has to end, you think that maybe if you wish REALLY HARD, it'll turn out differently?

I can safely say that's still not the case.

And yet I still think I like this book even more than Obsidian.

Their connection to one another is instant and their love quickly blossoms. However, Dawson is an alien. His secret is as dangerous as their love.

I really wish I had known about this novella before I read [b:Obsidian|12578077|Obsidian (Lux, #1)|Jennifer L. Armentrout|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1328275091s/12578077.jpg|17588854]. This tells the story of Dawson and Bethany and really lets you see into the prejudices against Katy in the next story. For a novella, it was suprisingly long.

Dawson and Bethany were as absolutely lovable as Katy and Daemon are in [b:Obsidian|12578077|Obsidian (Lux, #1)|Jennifer L. Armentrout|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1328275091s/12578077.jpg|17588854]. Their relationship is just pure and loveable. They lack the tension since they both just throw themselves into their love for one another.

The ending is just heartbreaking. Such a melancholy conclusion to such a pure love. I am in love with this series and recommend it to everyone.
