I have not done a good job keeping up with reviews for these four books... but if I had you would know that I came to this spin off series SO EXCITED. I fell in love with Vlad in the Cat and Bones series and could not wait to get to know him better. And then, meh. It wasn't until book 3 that I finally felt like we got to see Vlad and Leila in a positive relationship with us getting more insight into Vlad. I was really hoping to see more of that in this book.

I did. And I didn't. In terms of Leila and Vlad, it was an improvement on books 1&2, but a little backstepping from book 3. Thankfully this was made up for with some great plot progression and character development for Leila and her sister Gretchen, some really fantastic insights into Ian and Verity, and some dangling interesting pieces that MAYBE we'll see in other books I hope?

Most significantly - and I guess this could technically be a spoiler, so you've been warned - Leila was not kidnapped or rescued in this book! That's right, ya'll! I'm shocked too!

In fact, Leila got to be an aggressor in this book and I really enjoyed seeing her developing her abilities, and to a fair extent thanks to some new insights into her past. Vlad, though, fell back on some old bad habits - namely making unilateral decisions without discussing with those who it impacted for the sake of protecting Leila (even against her wishes). I do love him, but his arrogant impulsive behavior got under my skin!

If you're at all curious about Veritas or Ian -- two characters I'm immensely interested in - this book will pique your curiosity even more. I'm so excited to read their books next month for the readalong. In addition to lingering questions about Ian and Veritas (which I expect will be answered), I was left with some questions about Leila's sister Gretchen. She's always been a bit of a comic relief, but I've also found her interesting and with potential... so I do find myself wondering if we'll see any of her in Ian's books or maybe a spin off still to come?

I listened to this book as I did all of the Vlad books. I'm not a fan of Tavia Gilbert's narration, but for these books it is tolerable. She does deliver a pretty good voice for Vlad and I was okay with her voice for Ian as well. Thankfully Bones didn't make an appearance in this book, which is where things tend to get really rough for me. I also find her delivery of intimate scenes too breathy -- it makes it a little awkward to listen to and I tend to find myself laughing or fast forwarding. Her voices for female characters - as long as they don't have an accent - is good though. I think she actually delivers a really good voice for Gretchen. So, tolerable at 2x speed, but not adding anything to the reading. You may enjoy it more in print (if that doesn't slow you down too much as it does me).

Oh my gosh! The action and the suspense in this one almost killed me! Leila and Vlad both kept some things close to the vest, but I could understand why so well. I really hope there will be more Night Prince novels, because their story still has a lot that can happen.
The way Leila grew into her powers astounded me, and I loved how she sometimes needed a little nudge to get there. She became the ruthless fighter she was meant to be, and I loved every second of it!

This is the last book in the Night Prince series which is a spin off the Night Huntress series. This series can be read without having read the original series, though you will get more enjoyment if you read all the books starting with Halfway to the Grave (Goodreads has the entire set of books in this world in chronological order.)

The story in this book is that Vlad and Leila are searching for a relative of Vlad’s named Mircea. Leila and Mircea are magically tied together. When one hurts themselves, the same injury appears on the other. Problem is that Mircea has a vendetta against Vlad and is taking it out on Leila. That is until he’s kidnapped himself and used as blackmail against Vlad. If Mircea is killed, the Leila will die as well.

This story we learn about Leila and her ancestry. We get some time with her sister and her old vampire friend, Marty. Mencheres has a decent amount of time in this book. Ian is the side character with the most page time. There is no page time with Cat or Bones, though their house makes an appearance.

There is a lot of Vlad being overbearing, overprotective, demanding and secretive. Or, you know, Vlad being Vlad. Vlad puts quite the strain on not only his relationship with Leila, but also some other friends with his secrets in this book.

This was a pretty good wrap of to this series. The one thing that I would say about it, it felt almost more like a building block for Ian’s book(s) than a finale of Vlad’s series. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy it. It was a great story. I loved the parts of Leila and her sister learning more about their mother’s heritage. I loved spending time with Ian. I just think that bigger things happen with Ian than Vlad and Leila. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book set in this universe. I don’t know how many more that Ms. Frost has planned, but I’m excited for them.

“I don’t” Ian agreed with a laugh. “But I’ve been wrong before. Think it was on a Tuesday.”

A wolfish smile curled Vlad’s mouth. “It appears you’re right — I simply can’t go an entire day without murdering someone.”

“If I were anyone else, I’d be terrified at pissing off the legendary Vlad Tepesh, meaning “Impaler,” aka Dracula, aka don’t-ever-call-him-Dracula-if-you-want-to-live, but I was Mrs. Vlad Dracul, thank you very much. Uncrowned prince of darkness or no, Vlad wasn’t pulling this crap with me.”

Honestamente, no me acuerdo muy bien como acabó, es más, recuerdo más el anunció sobre la nueva serie. La cosa es que todo lo que esperaba que se toque y se solucione en este libro, no lo hizo. No me malentiendas, como lectura estuvo muy entretenida y básicamente devoré mi ibro, solo que me habría gustaba un poco de profundidad en los personajes, que realmente lidiaran con las consecuencias.
