Unfortunately, Nick's guilt about feeling responsible for not saving Spence and then returning to Spence's hometown and falling for Spence's girl and stepping into the life that Spence has wanted, got tedious after awhile. He would kiss Callie and get guilty and withdraw. He would want to kiss Callie again, and get guilty and withdraw. Over and over and over. Even his other buddy made him feel guilty over spending time with Spence's woman. Even though Spence and Callie were only childhood best friends. Just the fact that Spence had wanted to come home and make more of his relationship with Callie was enough to brand her as off limits.
I started the story thinking Nick and Callie were likable characters, but then realized they were just kind of boring.
One of Callie's friend, Bridey, as well as the Chief of Police gave hints of being more interesting story characters.
