As you know from the end of the first book, something awesome happens to Logan. They recap what it was at the beginning of this book, and something even more awesome happened, but I can’t say what it was!

Aura is finally starting to decide that she needs to move on from Logan. Zachary has been pretty patient, but Aura still has some trouble with deciding what she wants to do and needs to do. She messes that up for herself in regards to the Prom. The mystery of the First and Last also scares Zachary when an illness takes root in another character, so he ends up pushing her away even more.

I liked Logan a lot more in this book, he grows up and get a bit more mature and agrees to stay Aura’s friend while supporting her and keeping her secrets. As for my favourite character, it’s still Zachary, but Dylan is so cute in this!! He’s a geeky kind of cute, and I just wanted to give him a hug especially during the Prom events.

As for the progress of the story, you finally get to figure some things out, and of course read Aura’s mother’s journal! It’s the missing pages that she fretted about before, I definitely wasn’t expecting that big secret that her mother had. We find out who the father is too! And what Newgrange just might be to them all. As for the Shift itself, it’s still being fully figured out. The ending was very cute, and the way Logan went was perfect.

This book is better than the first and I really enjoyed reading it, it really captures you and I love the world and the characters.

Highly recommended for YA fans of paranormal, ghosts and romance.

The reason why Shift didn’t rate higher was because it took me awhile before I got into the book. The main culprit was the love triangle. I wasn’t a fan of Logan in Shade and that feeling only intensified in Shift. I tried to sympathize with Aura’s feelings, but all I really wanted to do was shake her and shove her toward Zachary, whom I really really adored — and not just for his accent. Though he doesn’t have Jace’s wit, I think I like Zachary better; it’s that totally supportive thing that gets me.

Shift offers more answers to questions that remained after reading Shade. At the same time, there are still a few questions left to answer in Shine. I admit to really adoring the ending of Shift and am looking forward to the next book. How Shift ended really helped me to get over my annoyance with the love triangle; I can only hope that Shine is even better.

Another beautifully written book about Aura, Logan, Zach, Megan and their friends. I think this is the only kind of love triangle that would ever seem 'normal' to me! I usuallay hate love triangles so much it sometimes puts me off books when it happens in stories I'm reading, but here, it made sense.

Logan definitely was the character who grew the most, but Aura and Zach, and even Megan weren't far behin.

I was really happy Mickey was able to start looking towards the future again, and feel that it still migth be bright.

It was really beautiful when Logan was finally able to pass on, and I thought it was wonderful that he stayed to do it while being alone with Aura.

Zach and Aura were also able to work through their complications, and their hunt for true answers about the stonehenges, as well as about Aura's past was very exciting. I'm starting to really hate those stupid DMP's with a passion :P

I wish we were 2012 already so I could just jump on to the next book. Zach is totally swoonworthy, and seems way wiser than his years.

loved 'Shade'. One of the things I liked the most is that the setting is Baltimore, and as you know I live in Maryland. It's great to know the places that the characters like, live in, eat at, and visit. Nevertheless, I had mixed feelings about 'Shift'. The first part of the book was somewhat confusing to Aura, therefore I felt confused. Her feelings and the attitude of those around her changed so fast that it left me reeling. The second part of the book, was much better and coherent for me, it flowed easier and was more interesting.

Aura is a likable character, she is pretty and intelligent, but although I can understand her feelings of mourning and loss, I can't understand why she seems to cling to Logan and the love they once shared. The boy is DEAD *period* I am not saying that she should be instantaneously ready to date or fall in love, but she should recognize that, and move on. And what happened with Dylan, what on earth was that?

Zachary, on the other hand I love. He is not only gorgeous, smart, has the patience of a saint, but most important he is in love with Aura and he is ALIVE. See the difference? I do hope that everything works out for them because they make a great couple. Other characters of importance were Megan and Logan's siblings, they were well fleshed out, but took a back burner to Aura and all her relationship problems.

Once the part about Aura's angst was sort of over (and honestly it was tiring) I loved the rest of the plot. We learn a lot about the Shift, and Aura's mom. It becomes more fast paced and I can't wait for 'Shine' the conclusion of the trilogy, due out Summer of 2012 (another whole year to wait *sigh*)

If you like paranormal and romance, you should give this series a try.

About the cover - I like the cover. The black background makes it mysterious and the burst of red is a significant part of the story.

Shift picks up some months after Shade ended, with Aura calling for Logan to come back to her. The plot picks up straight away, with multiple surprises happening which left me questioning everything that I learnt in book one.
There is a lot of background information in this book, and we learn a lot about Newgrange, and what went on there between Aura’s mum and Zach’s dad. We also learn more about certain things that happen during the solstice, and a few theories are brought up as to why the Shift happened in the first place. I really loved learning about all of this, and I didn’t feel as though the information was being thrown at me. It was very intriguing, and now I still need to know more!
There isn’t much difference in Aura’s character between Shade and Shift, but I loved her much more in this book for some reason. A couple of her actions really annoyed me, but again this seems to happen with a lot of the female protagonists that I read about. So don’t take what I say about her too seriously.
Zach and Aura had a lot of stuff going on between them. They had a very on/off relationship, which did become frustrating because I was shipping them so badly! I won’t say what happens, but I will say that I’m even more frustrated (in a very good way) with the result. I want more!
I said in my previous review of Shade that Logan was an idiot, and very self centred. In Shift, I was kind of dreading Logan showing up again. However, during this book, Logan grew up. I actually came to rather like his character after the first half of the book. Aura mentions this to Logan, when she says (I’m paraphrasing) “It took your death for you to grow up.” It was adorable.
I also mentioned that Smith-Ready didn’t do a great job when using Briticisms in Shade, but in this book she definitely stepped it up! My favourite part was when Aura said that they had “jackshit and sod-all”. Sod-all! Perfect.
Overall, I love this book. I think it is a brilliant sequel to Shade – packed full of touching scenes and hot romance.
