Disfruté de Tom Sawyer y de Huckleberry Finn en la clase de American Literature del instituto. Los leí a la vez que los nativos, y los analizamos algo más a fondo que lo que lo habríamos hecho en España. Los disfruté mucho, los dos. Me hicieron admirar muchísimo a Twain, que fue un alma casi atemporal, buena gente, listo como el solo, y con un ojo para el alma humana que nos caló como especie.
Las aventuras de Tom son lo de menos. El retrato que hace de la sociedad y sobre todo de las personas es lo que más vale del libro. Desde el momento en que Tom convence a los demás niños para que le pinten la valla hasta las conversaciones con Jim, el criado negro de su tía Polly, toda la obra trasluce la inmensidad de Twain. Y además es de aventuras y es divertida. No le puedo pedir mucho más, la verdad.
