Having a daughter really dominated the story in an irksome way. Partly my fault for not registering the “single dad” part of the synopsis. If I'd realized that ahead of time, I probably never would have read this.

But also the conflict at the end was pretty absurd. Cal broke up with Tara because he had previously promised his daughter he wouldn't have a girlfriend (not expecting Tara at the time). When the daughter found out about them saying she said she hated him and never wanted to see him again and wished he was dead. So Cal was like “sorry Tara, I have no choice but to break up with you.” Lol give me a break. As one of the side characters pointed out: she was just being a dramatic little girl. Especially because the daughter actually really liked Tara and hung out with her a lot. Cal just made some stupid impulsive decisions really quickly and should have just waited for his daughter to chill out a bit.
