You always have to watch the fun, affable ones, because they are the ones nursing the deepest wounds. Lincoln's backstory shredded me. There were just all these tears, over and over again. It was beautiful the way these two "cracked" people, could find some joy in each other. There were a lot of ups and downs in this one for our couple, but as always, we had the whole Stiletto and Oxford gang there for support, encouragement, and laughs.

All the Oxford books can be read as stand alone novels but I heartily recommend that you read either one or both preceding novels before Someone Like You, to fully understand the Lincoln Mathis that everyone thinks they know because the reality is something very contradicting.

This highly anticipated novel doesn't disappoint as we delve into the life of Manhattan's favourite man-whore Lincoln Mathis. He's as smooth as ever and charms the beautiful Daisy Sinclair, a woman he must avoid. Yet when his well-worn façade slips, this woman sees the real man is someone carrying a tragic burden, one he feels destined to carry forever. Can she help him overcome his shattered emotions to love again?

Daisy Sinclair lives a charmed life in her eight bedroomed mansion in Charlotte, NC. With a more than generous divorce settlement, she keeps herself occupied, mostly. When she meets Lincoln Mathis at her twin sister's wedding, she can see right through the man her sister told her to avoid. However, she has her own secret and like Lincoln doesn't expect to ever get over it. That's until he offers to help her.

As a mood reader, I had to pick the right time to read this novel because Ms Layne had dropped a few hints in Oxford #1 & #2 about a Lincoln Mathis we didn't know existed. I interpreted that as something heartbreaking and my instinct was correct. Lincoln story is heart wrenchingly sad however that feeling definitely doesn't extend to the overall mood of this novel. Yes, a couple of time I had tears in my eyes but I also laughed out loud at the one liners. The light-hearted banter between the Oxford guys and the Stiletto ladies is ever present either in the workplace or during social events. It's a classic Lauren Layne novel to a point but also has an emotionally intense side which tugs at the heartstrings. My heart ached for Lincoln but simultaneously, I was willing him to take control of his feelings so he could find the much-needed closure he deserved.

Overall, it's a novel that will stay with you for a while. It's sobering sometimes but has a satisfying happy ending for an adorable couple just meant to be together.

Ever since I met Lincoln I've been needing his story. I was so pleasantly surprised when I read that Lincoln isn't actually a womanizer as he portrays to be. But this is only the beginning of his story *cue all the sobs* You see, life has dealt him a very ugly card and none of his friends know what he's going through. He fools them all by acting happy and flirting with women. But the reality is so painfully heartbreaking. Despite what he's dealing with, Lincoln is a character who's very charming, a gentleman, kind and so unbelievably caring. His heart is so big with all the love he has to give. His story was squeezing my heart and I felt so much anguish. I kept hoping for his happily ever after.

It was odd that it was the person who’d known him for the least amount of time who could expose him...

Daisy is just like Lincoln. When she's at social gatherings, she acts happy and fakes a smile, yet inside she's hurting. Lincoln recognized that as soon as he saw her. Daisy was warned by her twin Emma to not go near Lincoln, but by the end of their first encounter, they are both at a bar having a good time. It's here that Daisy starts to realize that Lincoln's friend have him pegged wrong. Then the following day it's proven when Lincoln takes Daisy to see his heart-shattering truth.

It was some strange in-between place where his old life and new life converged in the most painful of ways. It was what might have been and what could never be, all rolled into one, and yet he couldn't stay away. Wouldn't stay away.

By here, I had tears streaming down my face. My heart was in the process of being ripped apart piece by piece. Lauren Layne gave Lincoln a story so sad and painful like no other, and I was suffering right along with him. Lincoln and Daisy are two jaded souls who meet each other time and time again. They both know what it's like to love so profusely and then being left shattered with no idea on how to put themselves back together. Their emotional understanding is what brings them closer together. This is a very character driven story with all the added depth it goes into. I was expecting a fun story, which it was, but it also was so deeply moving and tugged at my heart strings.

"Someday we'll be old and gray, sitting on the porch in boring, old-person silence, and I'll be just fine with that because I'll have everything I ever wanted. I'll have you."

Once again, all of the characters from the Stiletto series and Oxford made very entertaining appearances that add lightness to the story. The friendships are still amazing and fun. Their interactions continue to be hilarious. I love that they aren't just coworkers. I love that everyone is actually friends and are very involved in each other's lives.

This is Lauren Layne's best story to date. I don't know how she will top this one. Someone Like You is in my top 5 books of 2016! It was wonderful and so heart-wrenching. It tore my insides apart and had me crying, but it was so worth it! Lincoln's story is one everyone should read. You'll fall hard for this marvelous man.
