The super scary vampires were great but did Anita go through a total personality change or was it just me? All of a sudden sex is no big deal to her, she's wearing fancy dresses, and the monsters she used to hate are her best friends. It would be fine if that's how she always was but it's the complete opposite of how she was in the first books. Also the time frame seemed a little weird. It felt like she's been dating for a couple months yet other characters injuries have only been there for days? It seemed weird.

I'm glad she picked the guy I wanted her to pick but she doesn't even seem sure about that decision. I'm nervous for what's going to happen.

Basically this whole book felt like it was written by a different person. There was way more sex and violence than usual and even the characters all changed. I'm feeling this series less and less.

The Anita Blake series is a guilty pleasure of mine. I just don't know why, but I enjoy reading them. I like to see main character Anita struggling with herself and her countless "I'm bigger and badder than you" enemies. I like the horror side of the series. Ms Hamilton definitely has a sick mind sometimes, but it works.

Burnt Offerings was perfect for satisfying my Anita Blake fix. I'm glad Anita is still (kind of) monogamous in this one, from what I've heard she won't really stay that way. The infamous vampire council comes to town, which brings a big bunch of amazing characters like the tortured Asher and another triumvarate.

Anita, as always, runs around waving with her gun and generally kicking ass. She's getting some very interesting powers with Richard and Jean-Claude behind her. But I see a bit of a change in this book; she's mellowing down a bit. Don't take me wrong, she still has attitude problems. But she knows when a person needs a bit of comfort, and she doesn't shy away of giving it.

There was a lot of plot going on in Burnt Offerings. Anita has to deal with the vampire council, an arsonist on a rampage, two kinds of shifters that vie for her attention, and a jealous boyfriend. I wasn't completely satisfied by the way everything wrapped up. Probably just because I wasn't expecting it to be that way.

The Anita Blake series is one that you can't recommend or discommend. You either hate it, or love it. Some people love the early books, but hate the latter. There is just one way to find out to which team you belong, and that is to try it. I personally know for sure, I'm not done yet with Anita.

In this books, we meet two members of the vampire council, Padma, Master of Beasts and the Traveler. The Traveler is a scary vampire. He can possess another vampire's body and use it get around. We never actually see his body, I believe it never left Europe. Padma, the Master of Beasts, doesn't appear to be very strong and is mentioned that he is the weakest of all the council members. His son is an ass.

We also meet Nathanial and Asher. I love Nathanial. He is probably one of my favorites of Anita's loves (which doesn't happen in this book). Asher is a little like Richard, but not as bad. He is a pain in the ass and it gets worse throughout the books. I get really tired of his self loathing.

Dolph and Anita are having issues because Dolph doesn't like that Anita is dating Jean-Claude. This is an issue that will grow throughout the books.

Warrick is a very minor character that only appears in this book. I really like him and I wish we could've seen more of him. Without Yvette, I think he would've made a great addition to the Saint Louis vampires.
