I've only read this as an adult so I don't have nice childhood memories. To me, it just seemed sad. I felt sorry for the tree that gives and gives and never receives the love it deserves. It made me feel lonely and sad.

I read this over and over as a child and I don't know why. Because every time the ending made me really sad. And once he grew up I didn't like the little boy at all and found him terribly selfish. But I still always had an affection for this book.
