I really enjoyed The Secret of Ella and Micha, so of course I was eager to find out what happens next. At the start of The Forever of Ella and Micha, Ella is back at school while Micha has been on the road with his band for about a month. It's been a tough separation for these love birds, but they're desperate to make it work. However, personal issues wedge their way between them and threaten to pull them apart. Ella might be turning to her old way of running when things get tough, and Micha reaches for the nearest bottle. I have to say that the second part of their story did not play out how I was expecting at all, but in a good way.
Ella and Micha are both fretting over their futures together, but they also don't want to ask the other to give up what they love. Ella is also worried about whether or not they can have a future together, since she's still so messed up from her past. And this is where the story takes a sharp turn that I didn't see coming. They break up, because Ella wants to work on herself. There is some unnecessary drama because Ella does not know how to deal with her feelings, but when it comes down to it, she realizes that she cannot be in an intense relationship until she gets herself together. She enters therapy, gets on medication for her depression and anxiety, and tells Micha that they can only be friends for now. He was surprisingly supportive of this plan, but it was definitely hard for him. I just wish that more focus had been on Ella's mental health during that time rather than on how difficult it was keeping Micha's tongue out of her mouth (and other places).
On that note, The Forever and Ella and Micha contains a lot of sex. And I do mean A LOT of sex. Those two are like rabbits! On the bed, in the shower, in the car, against a tree...They just can't keep their body parts to themselves. When they're not having sex, they're talking about having sex or making suggestive remarks. Even when they're suppose to be in the friend zone: sex, sex, SEX! I'm not complaining though, but woah, I was not expecting that much. So be warned: LOTS OF SEX!
Despite being naked with Micha most of the time, Ella does take time to work on herself. She deals with her mother's death in ways that she hasn't before and she's starting to communicate with her father and brother more. Taking a step back and evaluating her life has also allowed her to see Micha and his problems more clearly. She realizes that his drinking has gotten out of hand, especially now that his father is back in his life. I liked how she didn't just brush his drinking aside and actually confronts him so that they can get healthy together.
In the end, I loved The Forever of Ella and Micha. It's not what I expected, but I think it worked. Ella and Micha may have been happy together, but their lives outside of each other were a mess. If they had any chance of lasting, they had to work through their individual demons first. In the words the amazing RuPaul, "If you can't love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?"

The tale picks up with Ella in college and Micha miles away touring with his band. Managing the long distance relationship, her father’s rehab and her own fragile emotional state have Ella confused, and fearful of dragging Micha down with her messed up psyche. The tale that unfolds is intense, heartbreaking, beautiful and raw.
Ella struggles and finds growth in this novel. I am so glad that the author chose to have Ella seek professional help, and appreciate its focus in this novel. So often the characters are left to their own devices and this more realistic approach may one day impact a reader. Despite her issues and her struggles I connected and wanted her to be happy. She is so much stronger than she gives herself credit for. Micha is smexy, and just oozes with swoon-worthy goodness. He has his own issues, and sometimes I think his happiness centers on Ella too much. I do respect that he accepts her; mood swings and all. He has patience with her, and makes career decisions with her in mind. He doesn’t push her, even when it hurts him not to. Family is present in this novel but this time we see some growth and healing. Both Ella and Micha have great best friends. I really like how supportive Lila and Ethan are. True friends indeed, they aren’t enablers and speak out when necessary. The two work in tandem to help the couple and I cannot help but hope a little something is brewing between them.
Sorensen has this way of wrapping you up in her characters so that you feel their emotions. Despite how impossible the relationship seemed, you couldn’t help but root for them. When they are together the world seems brighter. They are the couple you notice in a crowded room from the sexual tension to the devotion you see as they gaze at it each other. There were painful moments, romantic moments and hot sexual moments that melted the words as I read them. Sorensen touches on depression, anxiety, dysfunctional families and alcoholism. She doesn’t gloss over them, or try to magically fix them; instead she weaves a realistic and educated thread into her tale. I devoured this in one sitting with its dual POV’s and closed the book with a sigh and a smile.

That seems to be the current basis for the majority of new adult novels, the female protagonist is inexperienced, but as soon as the main character has sex, it then seems to be the only thing she wants as she suddenly morphs into a sexual kitten on the prowl.
Like the original in the series, the characters don't communicate, relationships are based on assumptions and lack any meaningful conversation. Ella is attempting to become a better person, but the two immature young adults don't seem to be healthy for one another regardless, and I can't see how that can be a positive relationship.

Once I received this book for review, I couldn’t start it fast enough. I had just finished reading The Secret of Ella and Micha and I had grown so close to these characters that I didn’t want my interactions with them to end. This book follows not too long after the end of The Secret of Ella and Micha.
Ella’s back in school and Micha is on the road with his band, doing the whole tour thing. They’re both young so there’s a lot of insecurity going around and a lot of, “I trust you, I just don’t trust them” going on and at times it was annoying but for the most part, I understood and was okay.
But there are a lot of things that annoyed me in this book. It annoyed me that both Ella and Micha are forever trying to save each other grief by trying to handle their issues on their own, not wanting to burder each other with the madness that is their lives. I wanted to shake them both because that’s what you do when you love someone. You’re there for them through the good times but especially through the bad times. You also let the ones you love the most, be there for you.
In The Secret of Ella and Micha, one of my favorite things about the book was Micha intense and consuming love that he has for Ella. Miles and time didn’t stop him from loving the hell out of her and he loved her so much that he didn’t care who knew it and he didn’t care how long it took him, he was going to get her to love him back because even though she didn’t know it, he knew that she loved him back. In this book, Micha’s love for Ella was still evident and going strong but Ella’s inability to love him back, the way that I wanted her to love him back really frustrated me for a lot of the book.
That was really the stem of where my frustrations with this book came from. I mean, even though I knew that Ella was aware that she couldn’t love Micha the way that he deserved and even though she was working on getting better for him, some of her methods drove me bat freaking crazy. And Micha didn’t help either, his jealousy where Blake was concerned annoyed the heck out of me since Blake did let Ella borrow his car to drive to L.A. to freaking see Micha.
I didn’t really know what to expect from this book but I was so happy to be getting a little more from a bunch of characters that I’ve come to care about that I wanted to read it anyway. I don’t really think another book was necessary but that didn’t stop me from inhaling this book once I got it.
In this book, we get a lot more drama between Ella and Micha and while it ends the way that I was hoping it’d end, there were times when I was frustrated but still, I love the cast of characters and I’m more than a little anxious for Ethan and Lilah’s book. Oh man, I can’t wait for them to get together. October 8th cant get here soon enough to suit me. Even with my frustrations with Ella, I still enjoyed this book a lot so I still recommend this book.

At the end of The Secret of Ella and Micha, Ella was back in Las Vegas at school and Micha was out touring with the band. They were trying to make the long distance "thing" work while they both worked through issues with their respective fathers. But the stress of dealing with the issues by themselves took their toll on not only each of them, but their relationship.
I have to give a lot of credit to both characters. Ella knew she had issues and was already seeing a therapist. But when she hit bottom, she knew it was important to work on trying to get herself back together and not push forward with a sexual relationship with Micha, not matter how much she wanted it. She was trying to make sure that she didn't go down the same path as her mother and drag those she loved down with her. But the big difference between Ella and her mother was Micha.
Micha knew he was meant for Ella and no matter what demons she needed to face he was always going to be there for her. He would give Ella the space she needed, even if it killed him and he always made sure she knew that not matter what she could count on him. Ella's issues tended to overshadow what was happening with Micha, but when he needed her she was there for him.
Most of Micha and Ella's issues came from a lack of communication. They both held in what they were feeling when it came to what hurt them most. Once they finally started talking, really talking, with each other, their relationship was able to get onto more solid footing and left me feeling like they were really going to make it.
I look forward to Lila and Ethan's story. The foursome need each other and it's very clear these two are meant for each other as well.
