Lori Foster has been an autobuy for me for the last couple of years and while this book was ok it wasn't my favourite. It could be because this was more NA with Yvette being 23 and Cannon 26, but I think it has more to do with Yvette just being a little too wishy washy for me.
I have very high expectations when reading a Lori Foster book and this one just seemed a little too OTT drama for the sake of drama. Yvette has issues from the traumatic experience she survived and I could understand her having long-lasting problems that would affect future relationship. My problem was that the actual "issue" she suffered in her relationships was lame (show spoiler)[ not having an orgasm during sex or foreplay is something a lot of women face until they mature enough to reach for and demand one. For her to not start a relationship because of it seemed a bit silly.]
I was also not a huge fan of the way Cannon treated the women who were hitting on him in front of Yvette. I wouldn't want someone I was interested in kissing a girls cheek to let them down gentler.
Overall I liked some of the characters that were introduced but I was more interested in what was going on in the lives of the people from her previous books. Not sure if this will be a series for me. I will definitely keep a watch for more Lori Foster books, but maybe not this series.

I have to admit that I've had a bit of an unintended sabbatical where Lori Foster in concerned. One of my all time favorite series is her Men Who Walk on The Edge of Honor. At the urging of a friend, I picked it a few years ago and fell in love. If I was smart, I would've hopped from that series to the Lover Undercover series, which links to the Ultimate series. You still with me?
So, I picked the first book, which actually was a novella - Hard Knocks and I knew I was going to be hooked on this series and then I felt really bad because I missed the Lover Undercover series (those books have been sitting on my Kindle mocking me, daring me to read them). I plan to rectify that oversight ASAP.
Cannon and Yvette have led me back to the Lori Foster fold and I'm so very happy to be back. Cannon is so completely swoon worthy. Like, majorly SWOON WORTHY. He knows he has a way with the ladies and knows he can get what he needs when he needs it. Sometimes, characters like Cannon, are jerks. My man, Cannon is soooo not a jerk. He is sexy and yet very kind and he knows how to let a woman down without pissing her off.
When Cannon makes up his mind about a woman, that's it. It's happening...it's on like DONKEY KONG. Even with Yvette being hesitant about getting involved with him (even though she's had the hots for him since she was a teenager) Cannon decides that he and Yvette are going to be together and he will stop at nothing to make that happen. But what I really loved about him was that he pushed Yvette a bit, knowing she was hesitant to get physical with him. But they way he did it, he pushed without overwhelming her. See? Swoon worthy. And he has quite a mouth on him... kind of a dirty talker. Verrrrrry nice.
His thumbs brushed along her jaw. "Tell me the truth, Yvette."
She loved it when he touched her like this, when she felt his strength mixed with gentleness. It was a hot, macho, potent combination, and no one ever had possessed the same ability to make her feel so many things.
Wrapping her hands over his wrists, she looked up at him. "I want to give you everything you're supposed to have."
His gaze dropped to her mouth. "What if I'm supposed to have you?"
Her breath caught. "Cannon," she chided.
Pleasure showed in his blue eyes. "Yvette."
(Even Seth Cohen thinks Cannon is SWOON WORTHY)
Amongst the happenings between Cannon and Yvette is ARMIE. Holy crap on a cracker, I need this man's book....STAT. I figured out pretty early on whose direction Ms. Foster was pointing him in and I LOVE IT. Armie is a trip and love his words of wisdom to Cannon as far as how to woo Yvette. I find it ironic that Armie fancies himself a relationship advice giver. ;)
So to conclude: Cannon=SWOON WORTHY. Lori Foster- I'm glad to be back in your world. Armie- I need that book.....NOWishhhhhh.

Second date: We meet Cannon’s martial art buddies, and I thoroughly enjoy this band of merry men. Much like a military unit, these boys have each other’s six and tease each other unmercifully. The banter and small talk was hilarious and ladies the testosterone levels are off the chart. These boys are smoking hot. Alpha-males that quickly stole my heart with their honor code and friendship. Things are heating up between Yvette and Cannon. Foster makes their dance believable and I am rooting for them. Yvette while damaged is brave and confident. I had to laugh at her protective nature towards Cannon. Foster had me giggle:snorting as they interacted as a couple and with other characters. Outside threats begin to weave into the tale creating danger. There are two separate threats and Foster created suspense without pushing things over the top, creating a believable tension.
Third date: Can I just say I friggin' love these characters and totally want more! Yvette’s friend from California is absolutely hilarious, and I need her story. We will get her story. Right?*raises eyebrow at Foster* Cannon’s buddies, sister and her roomie are all well developed and unique. The suspenseful threads wrapped up with a nice climax. Foster hinted of relationships to come while keeping me entwined in Cannon and Yvette’s tale. Their romance is sweet, tender, and unbelievably hot; it felt natural and beautiful. I do not want these dates to end, but I cannot set the book down. The savoring will have to be left for the second read.
