Cocktails and Books
I'm torn over this book. On one hand, I liked the main characters and the storyline was interesting. But on the other hand, I didn't love the main characters and some of the secondary characters irritating the loving hell out of me.
Hayden, the hero, should have been a bad boy that I loved. He was more than some of the illegal activities he participated in. But I didn't find myself loving him. I liked him. But it never evolved to anything more.
Kenzie, the heroine, had the weight of the world on her shoulders. She was in a tough spot and truly trying to do the best thing for her family and their legacy. And when she finds herself being drawn to the one person she shouldn't, I didn't really root for her. She was often a bitch to Hayden, which made me wonder why he tried so hard. And when she found herself caught in a web of her own lies, it was hard to feel sorry for her. She should have put her big girl panties on well before when she did.
I'm intrigued as to how this series will continue. Will the focus continue to be on Hayden and Kenzie, or will one of the other secondary characters be front and center. I'm hoping if Hayden and Kenzie continue on in the next book, the characters become a lovable (although I will confess, I hate Keira but continued on through the Thoughtless series...which I ended up loving).
