For one, I think the whole storyline with the twin thing should have been talked about a lot more, considering Matthias was half of that problem. I really liked Carol on her own, but she was soo insecure. And Matthias for himself was alright as well. But, and I think that is the thing that bothered me the most. I get that he has problems and in the scene you have with is parents you can clearly see that they both suck sooo much. I mean, from the way his father (and his mother) treat him, if it was like this, that was pretty close to an abusive household in my opinion (and that is one part of the problem I've got with this. They grew up in Fool's Gold, isn't that supposed to be almost perfect and the people take care of each other? How didn't anybody intervene in this?). But still, for him to break up with Carol, and having the expectation that she takes that as 'Oh, he's breaking with me, that means he wants to have a serious relationship!' which she doesn't of course (duh). That's just stupid and annoying. Grow up. If you want somebody, take a chance and tell them, or, in this case, just go on with the relationship, figuring it was going quite good. There was literally no reason to break up, other than that he wanted... a relationship? I am just saying, if you break up with somebody in real life, and they decide oh, that means you really love me and we will be together forever... you'll most probably end up with a restriction order.
so... yeah. I still like Susan Mallery's writing style, it's very light, easy to read and quite entertaining. That's the reason for the three stars, even though the story didn't convince me particularly.
