I wanted to love this book so much. How can you NOT love Jennifer E. Smith's romances? However, this one really paled in comparison to her other novels. It's incredibly short, lacks depth, and feels very repetitive. I wasn't worried about the potential for those things going in seeing as how The Statistical Probability of Love At First Sight takes place in just a 24 hour time period, but I felt such a deep connection to both of the characters. This lacked drawing any empathy from me, and I found the characters whiny at surface level most of the time. There were still glimpses of Smith's writing style that I love here and there, such as certain turns of phrase and playful elements such as the scavenger-hunt feel, but this is at the bottom of the list out of all of her works for me. I'll still pick up her books in the future, but this felt incomplete to me from both a length and quality perspective.

JESmith is usually my go-to when I want a sweet romance. This was sweet, but so sad. Her MCs were both preparing to leave colleges on opposite coasts. They spend their last 12 hours together revisiting special memories while struggling to decide on the fate of their relationship. This goodbye just hangs over them as they try to enjoy the short time they have left. I found myself in tears more times than not while I read this book. This idea of trying to decide if you should do the right thing or the selfish thing. It's a very precious and painful story that many people will find relatable. Maybe you weren't saying goodbye to your first love, but you have had to say goodbye to something -- a best friend, a place you lived, a job.

En toda mi vida, nunca pero nunca, eso que he tenido momentos bastante bajos, pero nunca me había sentido tan miserable como me sentí luego de terminar Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between. A ver, este libro lo conocí a finales de 2014 cuando Tristar decidió que era buena idea comprar los derechos del libro y generar un poco de bulla. Leímos la sinopsis y entendimos porqué es que estaban interesados. Leí el libro y sé que voy a morir si la película llega hacerse y la hacen bien. Y si lo hacen mal, ellos son los muertos.

Los que hemos leído con anterioridad a Jennifer E. Smith ya sabemos que nos encontraremos: una historia sencilla, personajes normales y mucho, mucho romance. A mí me gusta eso, personajes normales, personajes que sientes podrías encontrarte en la calle o quizá ya conoces. O quizá tú eres el personaje del que está hablando la escritora.

When their eyes meet, he smiles almost without meaning to, which is the kind of smile she loves best: It’s like a sneeze, a reflex, a twitch, helpless and automatic, and it only happens when he looks at her.

No soy cursi por naturaleza, soy romántica a lo Fitzgerald, creo que todo terminará mal y lo espero con ansías. Pero a la vez quiero que alguien me demuestre lo contrario. Y también sé que nadie podrá. Así que leer Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between fue para mí un tremendo huracán emocional, puedes ver como esta pareja se enamoró, es fácil entender porqué la idea de separarse y al ser personajes que tienen personalidades comunes me fue un poco chocante el entender las dos partes del posible rompimiento.

Si ya de por sí el libro es cruel emocionalmente, el epílogo es simplemente la cosa más dura de leer. Siempre se dice que los sentimientos no puedes sentirlos físicamente, pero hay veces que prueban lo contrario.



Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between te habla sobre la realidad, las cosas que cambian para bien para mal y sobre todo, que cada nueva persona que conocemos, puede ser el prólogo para una gran historia que podría cambiar tu vida.

I haven’t read too many books by Jennifer E. Smith but I was pretty excited to jump into this story. The premise was really interesting and I thought Smith did a great job of telling Clare and Aidan’s story. The pacing worked for me and the characters were interesting and the story itself was mighty compelling.

So, Clare and Aidan are getting ready to head off to college on different coasts. Clare is heading to the East Coast and Aidan is heading to UCLA in California. This story takes place over the course of their last night together and a whole lot of things happen. The plan was for them to take a walk down memory lane, remember their history and then decide whether to do the long distance thing or not. Clare thinks they should break up because logically, things were bound to change and they would drift apart so they should end things on a high note but on the other hand? She doesn’t want to. Aidan just flat out doesn’t want to. He loves Clare and he wants them to make it work but Clare is dead set on ending things now before they grow to hate each other later.

As they hit up each stop on Clare’s list, things just don’t go the way that Clare was hoping they would. Tensions are high, memories are only half remembered and the night gets away from them but I really enjoyed Smith’s writing style with this book.

This book was a lot deeper than I was expecting but Smith really dug into the heart of what Aidan and Clare was going through. The story is character driven and even though there were times when I rolled my eyes at Clare, I finished this book having liked what I read. Smith had thinking about what I’d do if I was in their position…would I stay together or would I let go? What’s the smarter choice? I thought the story ended on a high note and being the romance loving person that I am, I appreciated the story all the more. This is an enjoyable read and I definitely recommend.
