Once again Carlos Ruiz Zafon takes us on a gothic, dark, mysterious journey like he did in Shadow of the Wind and The Angel's Game. A mysterious strangers enters Sempere's book shop and leaves a message for Fermin Romero de Torres that takes the story back to a notorious prison in Barcelona in 1940.
The translation by Lucia Graves is well done and brings the story to life.
