Now I've had my ups and downs with Christine Feehan, her Dark whatever series makes me cranky but I like this series. This is one of the best of this series that I have read.

Sam Johnson is a smart guy, multiple degrees and a talented soldier his paranormal abilities make him good at infiltration and taking out soldiers. When he meets Azami "Thorn" Yoshiie he's smitten and he finds a worthy partner in her, if they both can stay alive. Both of them are orphans, both were found by caring people who did their best but both have to deal with their pasts and with various issues. Whitley is their target and Azami's not sure if she can trust Sam because he trusts the daughter of the man who tortured her.

Azami is a great character and while she bends for the relationship, she's still her own person. Sam was also a lot of fun. The ending felt a bit rushed but overall this story kept me interested. The push and pull of the romance was fun to watch and the characters entertained me.
