The Lost Girl is without a doubt a unique and though provoking novel, but there are too many plot holes that could have easily been resolved that kept me from fully enjoying it. For example, all echos have an E shaped scar on their necks, which is a major source of danger for Eva. It is mentioned that these scars are to make sure that the echo knows what they are and who they belong to, but it also puts them at great risk if anyone were to see it. I can understand having that mark there initially, but once the echo is sent away to live as their original, it should be removed. I have no doubt that the technology exists. It could be removed when the tracker is inserted, and it would have saved Eva a whole lot of trouble. How is she suppose to be convincing at being Amarra if she has to constantly be aware of that scar and hide it?

Another issue I had was with how Eva was raised. She’s lives in a normal home with guardians, which is more humane than being raised in a lab, but it’s another thing that makes her purpose even more difficult. She’s living in England, while her new life would be in India. She studies maps and photographs so that she’d be familiar with the city, and she listens to Amarra’s voice to mimic her accent and speech patterns. But of course she picks up the local terms for common objects. Crisps/Chips, telly/TV, mobile/cell are all matters of life or death. She’s already isolated, so they could have prevented her from picking these up, and reinforcing the way she should be speaking.The Weavers say that they don’t want their hard work to go to waste, and yet they leave so much room for error. It’s not very believable at all.

I also didn’t understand how echos are even made, and there’s a few instances where I just thought, “huh?” Apparently they’re stitched at a loom and created as infants from samples of their original and pieces from dead bodies. That’s straightforward enough, if you don’t think too hard about someone being “stitched” into life. However, Eva sometimes mentions having bits of Amarra’s memories that transferred to her along with the cell samples. She also is able to see the accident that kills Amarra. If echos are created as infants, shouldn’t their originals also be infants at that time so they can be the same age? How can memories transfer if they haven’t been made yet? It makes no sense.

I know I’ve only pointed out what I didn’t like so far, but I did like The Lost Girl. Those things were just very distracting for me, since they caused my mind to wander and cloud with questions. The premise is absolutely amazing, and I liked Eva. Her story is tragic, eye-opening, thought provoking, and hopeful. The world, unfortunately, isn’t believable in the slightest. I would certainly still recommend The Lost Girl, especially if you’re not so nit-picky about world building details like I am. At the very least, this story will have you questioning what exactly it means to be human and considering that fuzzy line between right and wrong.

Surely there must be a sequel, I was under the impression that it was a stand alone novel. Enjoyed the concept, reminded me of the film 'The Island'. Ava was a feisty character and that ending... Surely there is more to her story, as Erik indicated with the Loom. Great book and no uncomfortable triangles.

The Lost Girl was a thrilling and captivating story, full or amazing originality, wonderfully developed character's, and interesting plot. Those who enjoy sci-fi and gentics, will instantly be drawn to this lovely book. Sangu Mandanna takes readers for an interesting ride, with this emotionally powerful story of life and death, dealing with the aftermath of it, and having to make hard decisions that will affect one's life. Being created for the soul purpose of carrying out the rest of someone else's life when their's is cut short, is a cruel sense of purpose to have to live with. For Eva, her life simply isn't her own and she doesn't get to have any control over it.

Eva's different, though, she wants to have control over her own life and she wants to be with Sean, one of the people who has been assigned to watch over her. Its hard for her, being hated by Amarra, though it's understandable why she would. Eva is, but an echo of Amarra's life. The Lost Girl is an emotionally gripping look at loss and greif, in one of the most profound ways. It will touch readers deeply and will stay with them, once the last page has been turned.

This story is maddening and will throw out unexpected twists at every turn. It will also take readers on a journey of choice, self-reflection, questioning, and learning how to deal with greif. It's beautifully written and richly intense, complex, and complicated. Sangu Mandanna does such a phenomenal job of creating such a beautifully cruel and heartbreaking atmosphere. Readers will definitely not want to miss out on this amazing book.
