Grumpy hero? Check! Damsel in Distress? Check! Beautiful setting? Check! SEAL's Honor is checking all my boxes. Blue is out of the military and kind of lost until a chance meeting with a guy in a bar in Alaska. Once he begins finding his bearings again, a blast from his past shows up and he is NOT interested.

Everly had a huge crush on Blue when they were kids. She was several years younger but never forgot about Blue Hendricks. Now that she is grown up, she finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation. Except, there is no body. Now the cops think she is either crazy or a killer. Everly's brother suggests she seek out Blue and even though he isn't pleased with the memories Everly brings, he and his Alaska Force buddies decide to help her.

Blue is the quintessential grumpy hero. Hardened by his time in the military and struggling to gain a foothold into civilian life, he is not exactly welcoming. However, he has found a brotherhood with the other guys in Alaska Force. All of them are ex-military and struggling with their new normal just like Blue. Everly is a little immature in some of her actions at times, but she isn't one of those 'too stupid to live' heroines. She knows she needs help and drives for days through Canada to get to Alaska and Blue. Also, she is tenacious and doesn't let Blue's misery stop her from pushing through to him. In many 'grumpy heroes' the guy has a few soft spots. Blue seemingly has none! So, its all up to Everly to get through to him.

There is a lot of action to break up the male broodiness! Once Blue and Everly are back in Chicago, it becomes clear quickly that she is in danger and someone is really out to get her. This action helped me not feel so meh about Blue's brooding. Overall, SEAL's Honor is a great start to what I think is a promising series! I can't wait to meet the other Alaska Force men and get their stories!

Coffee Dates with SEAL’s Honor

• First Date: Our date begins with SEAL, Blue Hendricks. He has left the SEALs, but isn’t ready to return to civilian life. Which is why he is sitting in a small bar in the town of Grizzly Harbor looking for an elusive group known as Alaskan Force.  It’s here he meets Isaac their leader.. An elite ops group that contracts for special projects. I am dying to know more, but our story jumps to their base set in the mountains above Grizzly Harbor as he greets a somewhat shaken, Everly Campbell. Everly has spent the past week traveling to Alaska, via a rental hoping to find her childhood neighbor Blue. Apparently, she witnessed her roommate’s murder, and some goons are following her. The cops think she is nuttier than the Mad Hatter. From their first meeting, and his denial I find myself curious and need to know more.



• Second Date: Despite wanting to put her back in her car and send her on her merry way, Blue recognizes true fear and believes Everly’s story.  Soon the two are flying to Chicago. The cops still aren’t buying Everly’s story. Her roommate has posted vague messages on social media and even taken a sabbatical from work, but Blue and Everly aren’t convinced. The suspense angle built slowly allowing us a chance to get to know Blue and Everly. The two have sizzling chemistry although Blue has some serious issues and walls established. I loved seeing Everly chip away at them. When these two came together it melted by Kindle. However, pillow talk was cut short by some intense action. Once the suspense kicked into gear, the pacing amped up and I slip into the story. I ended up finishing it in a single sitting.



• Third Date: Family, near death, and goodbyes. The suspense thread was an interesting one that came to a climactic finish almost as quickly as it started. I for one didn’t see the outcome coming. Crane then turns her attention to the couple, Everly finds herself and Blue goes through some painful growth, healing and life altering perspectives before our story ended. I closed the book with a smile but also eager to know more about the men in this special ops unit.
