I had never read anything by Nicholls until this book, but heard great things about him. I was afraid this might be a little too sappy for my liking, but it’s not at all. I actually really like this book! From the first page I was enthralled with Nicholls’s voice and Douglas’s personality. This is an entertaining read, but it’s also kind of heartbreaking. First you get a sense of all that is good and really root for Douglas to turn things around, and then Connie’s flaws and his flaws are revealed, which makes the story so much more realistic and deep. I love how this makes the book so layered. There’s always more to the story and his present situation, which kept me eager to read on. This is a really great book, I think I’ll look into One Day now as well.
