Holy hell things are starting to pick up! I'm finally getting why so many people love this series. I was honestly a little confused by the hype after the first 2 books, but I'm glad I stuck through it. Opal had everything I love to read - banter, a believable romance, an intriguing plot, and well developed characters. I just wish some of the characters would take a minute to think things through!

Even with the evil cliffhanger at the end of the book, I've really loved book three the most in this series. Everything about it was better: the plot, the characters, dialogue...it was really good. I'm really enjoying listening to the audiobook of this series. It helps bring the story to life in a bigger way and I'm getting through it faster being able to listen while I'm getting ready in the mornings. I've already started the fourth book. Little did I know when I listened to the first book that I'd end up liking this series as much as I do. At this point though, the books are meant for only older teens and adults with cautions about violence and mention of non-graphic sex.

This one was hard to rate. I found most of this book boring and had a lot of scenes that were not useful to the story and slowed it right down, I also found Katy to be very annoying, clingy and whiny. However the ending to this book was pretty exciting and a cliffhanger. So now I have to read the next book even though I had planned on giving up at this one...

Initial Thoughts
I’ve pretty much become obsessed with this series and I’m not even sure why. As soon as I finished the second book I went straight out and bought the third. There’s just something really addicting about this series. So naturally I jumped right into this one with my expectations high.

My New Best Friend
I’m sad that Dee and Katy kind of broke up. I love Dee. She’s so happy and excited about everything. She changed a lot in this book though. She turns violent because of someone’s death. She basically loses it and in the process Katy loses her too. She’s still my favourite though, easily.

My Crush
Of course I’m still in love with Daemon. That’s probably why I’m so addicted to this series. He’s just so attractive to me. And probably to every other girl. I can’t get over how perfect he is. Except he isn’t at the same time. That’s what I really like about him. He’s not the perfect hero. He has his flaws, like how much of a jerk he is. But in the end he’s incredible and every girl wants a guy like him.

Writing Style
I was happier with this book more than the others. It has less of a similarity to Twilight for me and that made it easier to read. The super cliché lines were still there but I found that I wasn’t bothered by them this time. The writing is definitely improving.

Closing Thoughts
This is my favourite of the series so far. I liked the plot much better and I loved the new character, Dawson. I love how him and Katy slowly became friends and she helped him out of his little depression moments. I also liked that Katy stood up for herself a lot more in this book. She was still kind of stupid some times but I got over it. I am getting a little annoyed with her lame names she calls people. Jerk face? Come on, you can do better. I still hated Blake when he came back, though who doesn’t. He did make the story more interesting and I loved how Daemon, quite literally, wanted to kill him. Lots of fun! There was a lot of romance in this book too, just about the same amount as book two. Ash was still a jerk and Dee and Andrew came around eventually. I wish we could see some more of Matthew though because he seems like and interesting character. I’m warning you though. If you read this book be prepared for a huge cliffhanger at the end. Good thing the next book is out and I don’t have to wait for it.

I just can’t get over how much I love Daemon. Seriously. I’d do anything to be with him.

So yeah, I've read the third book already. After only starting it almost two weeks ago. I just love this series! It gets better and better with each book!

Dawson is back home where he belongs, but life hasn't got any easier. Everyone is still grieving over Adam's death. Daemon and Kat are stuck in limbo after Will's disappearance. Will the mutation hold? Will he die? Will he survive and cause more trouble? And Dawson is mentally scarred by what he has been through in the past year, what he was forced to do, and the separation from everyone he loves. Now he's safe, he's determined to rescue Bethany. No-one will let him do that on his own. They have to make a plan, and make sure everyone's safe. Then Blake appears. Before anyone has a chance to kill them, he offers them a deal; he knows where Beth is - he'll help them release her, if they help him release Chris, the Luxen he is connected to. None of them trust him, but he has the information and the contacts they need, and is blackmailing them on top. They have no choice but to accept. But when there's danger lurking around every corner, you don't know who's friend or foe.

Oh my god! The stakes go up even further in this novel! They're actually seeking out trouble, rather than having trouble come to them. Dawson is nothing like who he used to be. It's like the joy has been sucked out of him, leaving behind a shell of the fun-loving boy he used to be. All he can focus on is freeing Bethany. His love for her knows no bounds, and he can't bear sitting around when god knows what is happening to her.

Kat's relationship with Dee is pretty much dead since the death of Adam. Dee blames her and Daemon for the lies and secrets; if everyone knew what was going on, she and Adam wouldn't have rushed in like they did. Adam would still be alive. Kat can't help the guilt she feels, taking a huge amount of the blame. But no-one is happy when Blake returns. Oh my god, I do not like that guy! I don't care how much Armetrout tries to make us understand why he does what he does, I do not like him! Plus he's so freaking creepy! Some of the things he does, ugh. But they have no choice, so a plan is made with Blake to free Chris and Beth.

Because so much is going on, there isn't much alone time between Daemon and Kat. This did bother me a bit, because it was mostly tension-tension-tension the whole way through the novel. There weren't so many lighter moments. I would have preferred if they had got to hang out more, and just be boyfriend and girlfriend, rather than have every single conversation ruled by Will or Blake or Beth and Chris, or whatever else. Yet, saying that, I was getting tired of all the eyes that were being made at each other. Too many moments of her breath being took away because he looked at her, or stroked her face, or kissed her... it was all a little bit samey after a while, and some of the things said felt overly cheesy. They are still hot together, but it seems like now they're actually a couple, the hot has been turned down a bit, and the sap has been turned up. I'm partly wondering if I've read them all too close together, and that's the problem. Perhaps I need a little break. I still love these two, but it got a bit much some times.

The ending! Oh my god, the ending! Cliff hanger or what! I have no idea where things are going to go from here, there is absolutely no way to tell! It does partly make me want to pick up Origin, the fourth in the series, straight away to find out what happens next, because Jesus Christ! It's jaw-dropping! It's sooo unfair to end a book like yet, and yet so awesome! I am SO looking forward to Origin, but I will be giving myself a bit of a break before I dive into it. But such a fantastic series!

I was totally kicking myself for not starting this series sooner, but now I wish I had waited! The ending of Opal is a killer! It's a huge cliffhanger and I need the next book! Lux is definitely one of those series that gets better and better with each book. In Opal there is more of everything. More tension, more danger, more steamy Kat and Daemon scenes, more bickering between Kat and Daemon! There only thing that there was less of was Dee's bubbly personality, which is understandable after the events in Onyx, but I missed her.

Katy and Daemon have most definitely made my list of favorite YA couples. It took them forever to finally get together, but not much has changed. I like that. Just because they're dating and totally hot for each other, doesn't make their faults go away. Katy still finds Daemon to be an insufferable jerk from time to time, and Daemon still makes fun of all of her crazy quirks. They are not the super mushy, everything is rainbows and butterflies type of couple. They fight, they bicker, they make out. But they also talk about their problems instead of going behind the others back then forgetting about it. Thumbs up to Katy and Daemon!

I really cannot think of anything to say that I haven't said before. These books are great fun, exciting, and sexy! Opal definitely takes everything to the next level as Katy and Daemon try to rescue everyone while simultaneous trying to protect themselves and each other. The DOD is a tough opponent, and they are just teenagers. I like that the author hasn't included some magical solution that enables a group of 18 year olds to take down a government agency, even if they all have supernatural abilities. There are complications and a lot of them. That ending...holy crap...even the best laid plans can go terribly, terribly wrong. I can't wait to see how they get out of that one!
