Will Elle fall in love with Noah and lose her best friend, Lee?

The Kissing Booth by Beth Reekles is a great book. I heard about this book when the news had a segment on the author in 2011, but I didn’t read the book until now. Ok, so I read the book because it is a movie now. Maybe it's me but, I like to read the book before watching the movie. This book is from Elle’s point of view, and all the characters shine through despite that. It’s a great book. I loved it so much that I cried at the end. Happy tears, of course, well sort of.

Elle

Like I said above Elle is the point of view character. We see everything from her eyes, and it works well. Elle, unlike most of her classmates, has never been kissed or even experienced a relationship because of her best friend’s older brother. Noah is keeping all the guys away from her. She is a good girl who is a nice person, and some people might take advantage of that. What I liked about Elle is that the guys thought of her as one of them and didn’t think much of them flirting.

Another thing that I like about Elle is that she is the type of girl that anyone would want to be friends with in high school or at least I think so. What I don’t like about Elle is that she didn’t even think about telling Lee about anything. I think most of the time the truth is the best thing. Don't try sneaking around.

Lee

You can’t have Elle without Lee. Or for Lee’s case, you can’t have him without Elle. Lee is Elle’s best friend since birth, and they are inseparable at times. He is a pretty impressive character. Lee knows about Elle being naïve about a lot of things but is also trying to protect her. What I like about Lee is that he is a great character and that he can read Elle well. What I don’t like about him is that he doesn’t tell Elle that he thinks something is going on. See, the whole communication thing would help here too.

Noah

Noah is the love interest for Elle. He is a pretty impressive character even though he plays a bad boy. Then again that is his reputation. What I like about him is that he is protective of Elle and has been for quite some time.

Another thing that I like about him is that he convinces Elle to try things that she would rather not have. What I don’t like about him is that he hides behind what other people think about him. He lets his reputation stand on its own.

The Kissing Booth by Beth Reekles is a pretty fantastic book. I am happy that I have read it. I am giving this book five stars since it was perfect. Elle, Lee, and Noah are all very great characters, and I can’t wait to watch the Netflix movie sometime this week. Watch for that review too.

This is by far the most swoon-worthy book I have ever read. I keep smiling all the way through!
4 stars for not-so-happily ever after....

The story is fast-paced and I like the flow of it. There were a lot of characters mentioned but you won't notice because it really focuses on the main characters - Elle/Shelley/Rochelle, Lee, Noah/Flynn (Yup, a lot of nicknames too!)

I don’t think there’s a huge plot twist. It was just about hiding Noah and Elle’s relationship from Lee. And when he found out, he got mad for Elle lying to him. However, blood should really be thicker than water. I don’t quite understand why Lee would be so overdramatic and fight with Noah about his relationship with Elle. I would totally understand if Noah has a secret crush to Elle and that he was hurt because of it but would totally move on because boys just move on pretty quickly and they won’t hold grudges to anyone especially a brother.

The story ends with Noah having to leave for college, which is a real one because he needs to pursue his dreams and new opportunities, even if that means leaving Elle behind. But that doesn’t mean they’ll stop loving each other, they said they would try. And with that, the author left us hanging... asking for a sequel.

The Kissing Booth offered us fleshed out, lovable characters, a swoon-worthy bad boy, friendship and first love.

The tale begins when we meet Rochelle “Ella Evans who is almost seventeen and never been kissed. Her best friend since forever is Lee, and he happens to share the same birthday. There Mom’s were best friends, they live around the corner from each other and the families interact. Now Lee has an older brother, the smexy, hot-head jock Noah Flynn. His friends all call him Flynn. He is a bad-ass, popular, a player and academically brilliant. Elle has crushed on him forever but he’s never treated her like anything but a kid sister that is until the Kissing Booth at the high school carnival. The tale that unfolds is sweet, complicated and one girl's experience with first love.

Reekles does a wonderful job of fleshing out the main characters of Ella, Lee and Noah. While the secondary characters easily fell into normal high school stereotypes, the main characters offered up something more. Ella is sweet, and in a lot of ways a typical teenager she is confused by her feelings and her loyalties. At times she wavers back and forth as she tries to please everyone. She likes Noah but worries about how it will affect her friendship with Lee. While at times I wanted to shake her for all of her contemplating and secrets she really behaved the way one would expect someone her age to act. At times she showed a level of maturity I appreciated it. Ella and Lee together are a riot; two peas in a pod and all that. They really march to their own drum and make even silly ideas seem cool. Noah is complicated and smexy and oh boy does he know it. He flies off the handle and gets into fights but somehow avoids suspension. I really wanted to understand where some of his volatile personality came from and wish there was a tad more depth there. He is very protective of Ella and was at times almost possessive, but slowly we begin to see why or rather he does. We see growth in him and in all of the characters and how they communicate. The parents were present but as a parent I cringed at some of their parental decisions and discussions.

The tale itself is your typical high school romance, complicated by Ella and Lee’s friendship and of course Noah’s bad boy image. Were there any surprise? Nope. Instead it was a wonderfully paced coming of age tale about first love, friendship and growth. The chemistry between Noah and Ella felt real, and while it started off physical it developed into something more. So often these tales have the girl drastically changing and it was refreshing that Ella didn’t go all gaga over Noah. Watching Ella discover her true feelings and dealing with the relationship was fun to watch unfold. There is implied sex and underage drinking. The parents seem to condone this behavior with remarks like “don’t drink too much” which made me want to rip my hair out! I guess if I were a seventeen year old writing about perfect parents this is how I'd want them to act instead of going all parental on me. I easily consumed this book in two sittings as it flowed easily, and the character interaction were engaging. The ending was beautifully done, and very realistic.
