If you have read my review, you will know I had qualms with the first novel in the Lady Julie Grey series, but overall loved Silent in the Grave. The second, Silent in the Sanctuary was filled with numerous mysteries and left me thoroughly entertained and anxious for the third, Silent on the Moor. SOTM is my favorite so far with the only flaw of a tacky cover giving the impression of a bodice ripper, which these books are not! but alas. The novel itself was thoroughly satisfying. It was enthralling and I could hardly put it down. Next I enjoyed a stand-alone mysterious vampiric novel in The Dead Travel Fast. It was plain to me that while I adore the Lady Julie Grey Novels, it is indeed the story telling voice of Deanna that captures and causes the reading of her stories to be undertaken with rapid page turning succession.
Then we come back to Lady Julie Grey in book #4, The Dark Road to Darjeeling, definitely a great cover; however the first two original covers in the series are my favorites. At first there was confusion with the copy I ordered and it was many months after it’s release when it arrived and I was swamped with other reviews and put it aside. But now as anticipation for #5 The Dark Enquiry sets in I grabbed it from the shelf and have spent the last few days entranced with what will happen next.
I just plain love it! I love the characters. I love the wit. I love making assumptions and then either finding myself entirely correct or proven wrong. I love the humor and the entertainment. I absolutely adore these novels! Oh and a last minute thought… what an appropriate and accurate portrail of marriage!
So… mail lady, I ask you… will you bring my copy of The Dark Enquiry today?
*Thanks to Nancy Berland PR and Deanna Raybourn for providing me with a copy for review.*
