Just like baby bear's bed, this book is just right.

This is an intriguing retelling of the classic fairy tale.  While it is written in such a way as to be quite close to the original story, there is a bit of a twist in the fact that Rumplestiltskin is actually quite a good guy.  I was captivated by the sweet story and the way Aubrynn was able to see past Rumple's deformities in a way no one else ever had.

Though this is a retelling, it didn't feel like I knew exactly what was coming next.  The story was well written and interesting.  It is appropriate for a wide range of audiences from pre-teen to adults who are young at heart.

I like Fairy Tale re-tellings, but I have to say, I LOVED this re-telling of Rumplestiltskin! Author Jenni James has given readers a brand new twist in this fairy tale. You instantly lose your heart to poor 5 year old Fredrico who is turned into a a twisted and rumpled being by a witch. As he grows, and becomes a man, your heart turns to him as he struggles in life. Rumple comes to the rescue of the beautiful Aubrynn who is imprisoned in a tower to spin straw into gold. With a few magical things, he not only saves Aubrynn's life, but he wins her heart. You will love this delightful tale of Rumplestiltskin like you have never known him before.

Rumplestiltskin by Jenni James is the third in her Faerie Tale Collection. In her version, Rumplestiltskin is not the villain; in fact, he’s the hero of this tale. Shunned by his family and believed dead by the kingdom, Prince Fredrico Baldrich Layton roams the hidden castle corridor, hiding from everyone’s sight. However, when a girl is unjustly forced to “turn straw into gold” or face the death penalty, Rumple knows that he must step in and save her from his cruel brother’s wrath.

Jenni James artfully introduces the reader into her world of Rumplestiltskin while still being respectful towards the original version. Her new interpretation paints him as merely misunderstood, which endears audiences to a previously one-dimensional villain. In addition, she turns a moral tale about greed into a captivating romance. An interesting twist is that Rumplestiltskin himself isn’t magic, which adds another layer of suspense during multiple tight situations. I recommend this book for fairytale lovers, fans of romance, and readers who like hearing new and sometimes unconventional retellings of a classic story.
