I heard about this book in a blogging group on Facebook. It is a little book, and you can read it in a couple of hours, but the basic premise is that whatever you do you should make a "purple cow." This means to do something radically different than other bloggers. All the good ideas are already taken by the old traditional company so if you a new person want to make it you got to be radically different.
This got me thinking about the book blogosphere. For a long time and it is still true book reviews were the mainstay of book blogs but now if you want to attract a lot of people you got to come up with something different. Like I always say no one wants to read six book reviews in a row. I used to think that there was no good way to go about this. I mean what can you say about books that have not already been said? Then I put my thinking cap on and thought about it. I even made me a mindmap, and I came up with some ideas that you will see in future posts. I LOVE reading reviews but the people that flock to this blog would probably get bored as hell if all I posted were reviews. I noticed when I started diversifying my posts that more and more people visited.
The challenge is to keep coming up with "purple cows" I hope when I have exhausted this set of ideas that I can come up with more. I will have to be more creative and nurture the creative side of me to be able to do this. I will be the first to admit that I have not been doing this. I have not been living the "creative life" more like someone stuck in the mud kind of person. I need to drag myself out of the so-called mud and get out and get some damn inspiration. Hiding in my apartment is not doing me any favors.
This book was a jolt to me. I realised that If I want to stay relevant as a book blogger that I HAVE to come constantly up with new ways to talk about books. There is no other option. I highly recommend this book to bloggers. It will explain WHY you need a purple cow in your blogging. This review was originally posted on Adventures in Never Never Land
