Review:
Ow. My heart. Twilight's (aka Loid) backstory hurt, but it certainly wasn't surprising. In many ways, I feel like much of the revelation that followed is more or less what fans were waiting on. It certainly explains his dedication, among other things.
Yes, that does make this volume a bit darker than the rest. It's a good reminder that both partners (Loid and Yor) have pretty dark jobs; we generally see it in a happier light, thanks to little Anya (also, the overall tone of the series, but that's a different story).
While Loid's story took up a good chunk of this volume, the main plot progressed – thanks to Yor. That was a pleasant surprise. Now, we have all members of the family fully embroiled in the situation, though admittedly for different reasons. I really can't wait to see where this leads. Unfortunately, I think there might be a bit of a waitlist at my library. So wait, I must. Sigh.
