Eeny meeny miny moe...

I liked The Bridegroom Wore Plaid and found the narrator very easy to listen to. I am a sucker for a Scottish accent but sometimes find it hard to understand. I'm not sure why, but in this case, I had no problems at all.

What did you call a key party (swingers party) back in the olden days? Ok, it wasn't really a swingers party it was more a party where you were allocated an intended and decided to swap her out for a better option. Ok, Ok, it wasn't that bad and it sounds worse than what it really was but it wasn't that far off. The MacGregor boys were given a bunch of ladies to entertain and it was a bit of eeny meeny miny moe, lift their skirts and find a...toe???

Financial worries for the MacGregors and family obligations for the women leads bring these two families together. With a despicable family member controlling them, they must outsmart him in his horrible games. Hopefully, love will win and evil will come to light.

If I was to complain about one thing, it was the delay in Ian and Augusta finding their HEA. Sure, it didn't stop them from amusing themselves but I hate that duty came before love. I know, it's more realistic and historically accurate, but I'm a sucker for love. Bugger duty.

Another story from my extensive Want To Read pile crossed off thanks to the Romance Package. I will have it whittled down to nothing...soon...ish.

I quite enjoyed The Bridegroom Wore Plaid. It all starts when Ian MacGregor needs a wife. A rich wife, since his clan is a bit short on funds. Luckily, Eugenia's father wishes to marry her off to a titled man, and Ian fits the bill. Unfortunately, Genie has no interest in an arranged marriage and Ian has no interest in a wife with no interest in him. However, Ian is drawn to Genie's cousin, Augusta, as she is to him, although she doesn't want a titled husband. It's just one big mess which is further complicated by some suspicious financial claims made by the baron.

The Bridegroom Wore Plaid was a very enjoyable read, but I did find the narrative a bit jumpy. Not only do we follow Ian and Augusta, but there's also, on occasion, Ian's two brothers, Augusta's cousins Genie and Matthew, and their aunt Julia. It's not that their perspectives were unnecessary, because they do add to the overall story, but the transitions weren't exactly smooth. Like I said, it was jumpy. But all four couples are tangled up in this big mess of who's marrying who, so I do think those additional POVs were needed.

In addition to all of the romance, there is also this issue of money. The baron claims to be very, very rich which is exactly what Ian is looking for. Of course, Augusta is very poor, and has been taken in by her uncle when her parents died. The baron notices her getting close to Ian and keeps trying to kill her to get her out of the way. On top of that, there's some question about Augusta's missing inheritance. It's super obvious what happened to it, and yet no one even suspects it until the end. I know it wouldn't be proper for Augusta to question about finances, but she could at least think it! I mean, it's SOOO obvious.

I did really like The Bridegroom Wore Plaid. I liked that there was a lot of stuff going on, so it was never boring, except when there was a lot of legal talk (the main plot does revolve around marriage contracts and finances). The jumpy narrative was a bit annoying, but ultimately I think it added to the story.

Really a 3.5

If you are looking for a feel good historical read, look no further then Grace Burrowes. The Bridegroom Wore Plaid by Grace Burrowes is a great romp. through Scotland where a young woman is marrying a titled man so he can use her dowry to shore up his family holding. The only problem is that the bride to be can’t stand her future husband. The young woman in question, Eugenia Daniels, is not interested at all in arranged marriage. Her father has brought along two female relatives as chaperones. Augusta Merrick’s life fell apart when she lost her parents at a time when she needed them most.

Unfortunately, Ian and August find, in each other, their other half. If only Augusta were an heiress and not a penniless spinster! They are both very aware that there can never be a future that includes a happily ever after together. Ian and Augusta decide to take their pleasure where they may and enjoy the time they have before Ian shackles himself to a woman and an un-happily ever after!

I’m going to be brutally honest here: this book is total fluff and I loved every page of it! I knew who the bad guy is (it was no secret) and the why and the how. Normally this would kill a book for me but Grace Burrowes can write a romance. I so wanted Ian and Augusta to get the ending they deserved that I didn’t much care about anything else. I adore the characters that Grace Burrowes writes which is totally what made this book work for me.
