2017 Re-Read
I decided to re-read this one before continuing with the series... and I have to admit I had as much fun this time as the first time. I honestly have no idea why I like this so much - it has a lot of elements that I hate in other novels. For example, the excess of sex.

And yet, I can deny that I had so much fun with it! And I was smiling while reading because of their antics!

I'm excited to read the next ones now!

What a hot read.
I agree with someone who said there was more of the act than a story, but contrary to other books who had the same problem, I didn't mind here. Maybe it was because each time it was reflectively different than the other (naughty children), or maybe because I could see their feeling through it, but it didn't bother me much.

But everyone in this book are simply shameless.
It makes for a hot book, but I do not want to be part of their entourage.

Backstage Pass was exactly what I want in an erotic romance! I don't read much erotica, but when I do I want a solid story and complex characters to tie all the steaminess together. Backstage Pass delivered all that, with only one minor irritation for me (knocking it to four stars).

Myrna was really a great character to read. She's full of contrasts. She wears a suit, with garters. She has a PhD, in human sexuality. She gives lectures at conferences, using guitar rifs from rock bands. She doesn't drink, but she'll hang at the bar with a rock band. Myrna is complex and I loved discovering her layers.

Then you've got Brian. Master Sinclair, lead guitarist of The Sinners. He's your hopeless romantic, stuck in the life of a rock star. Not that they can't be hopeless romantics, just that the lifestyle - with the groupies and fan girls can make it hard to find anything real. And Brian wants that.

What I liked about Backstage Pass was the way we get thrust into this rock star world but aren't drowned by the stereotypes. I mean there is drinking and lots of crazy, hot sex (erotica remember!). But there's also distinct personalities, friendships, and struggles. I loved the engagement with a fantasy - I mean who doesn't dream of hot sex with their favorite rock star/movie star ? - but also the reality that kinda smacks you in the face. Life on the road, no privacy, driving all night, etc.

Here's the one thing that bothered me. Myrna was burned by a past relationship, badly. And that added a great dimension and complication to the story. But goodness gracious, I got tired of the way she kept lying to herself about how she felt about Brian. It didn't match the strong, confident woman. I believed it to an extent, because even the strongest person can be deeply scarred by emotional abuse. So it wasn't a deal breaker at all, it just irked me at times.

Oh and the narration was fantastic! Justine O. Keef did a great job with all the voices - male and female alike. The only thing that could have made the audio better in my opinion, would have been actually hearing some of the music - but I think that's an unrealistic want ;)

If you're looking for a steamy read with a good story to propel you between scenes, Backstage Pass is a must read.

Backstage Pass opens with Myrna exiting a conference where her presentation didn't go so well. All she wants to do is head back to room and sleep, but then she recognizes the group of guys sitting the lounge: it's her favorite band, The Sinners! Forgetting about sleep, she goes over to their table, where she ends up hanging out with them for a bit, while making googoo eyes at the guitarist, Brian, who is beyond drunk. She invites him back to her room, where he is in for a surprise! It's not what he (or I) was expecting and it gave me a good laugh before heading into the sex department.

There is a lot going on plot-wise in Backstage Pass, which is not really something I'm use to in Erotica or Erotic Romance. I definitely don't mind a solid plot in between the sexy times, but I did feel like there was too much happening. Of course, at the center there's the romance between Myrna and Brian. But there's also both of their personal baggage. Myra is divorced, and her ex-husband's harsh words haunt her throughout the book. Plus there ends up being a Suspense Lite plot thrown in involving him, which I could have done without. Brian is a rock star who wears his heart on his sleeve and can't help but fall too fast, but he believes he's found his muse in Myrna. And finally there's Myrna's research that may help save her career (a plot point I was very interested in, but has no resolution!).

Brian was the main root of my annoyance with Backstage Pass. I found him a bit pathetic, since when we meet him, he's completely plastered because he was dumped. Then several chapters later he spends an entire month drunk and mopey after Myrna goes back home. They spent two nights together, and that's how he reacts? I had no sympathy for him, and for a moment wished Myrna would stay away instead of getting involved with him. Brian also has these manic episodes during their wild sex where he just has to start writing down the music, which was interesting the first time, not so much the other times it happened. Also, rimming is not sexy; there was too much of that for my liking.

I did love some of the surprises sprinkled throughout Backstage Pass. I was totally not expecting any menage, but I was very excited when there were two of them! I was worried that Brian was going to fly off the handle, but thankfully, he didn't. But my favorite part had to do with Trey. I won't spoil it, but I totally didn't see that coming and it made me a little too happy but also made me go "awww! *sad face*" We actually get a pretty great introduction to all of the band mates along with their kinks, without being overloaded with information.

Backstage Pass had some stuff I really loved, stuff I wasn't expecting (in a good way), and some really irritating stuff. But I did enjoy it overall, and I think it was a solid introduction to the band. In the beginning my feelings kept flip-flopping from awkward to sexy and back again, since some of the scenes were a bit odd. Also, it started to drag and become repetitive in the middle before the plots showed up again and moved the story forward. While I didn't love Backstage Pass, it certainly made me interested in the rest of the series. I'm especially eager to read more about Trey and Eric!

I swear I get shifty eyes when I listen to books this HOT. I'm convinced that EVERYONE around me can hear, too.

Olivia Cunning can write one hot and sexy read but don’t let that turn you off. Cunning can also write a plot line as well as satisfy your need for heat. The pace is quick which means you’ll be involved in the book almost immediately. Before you reach page 100 you’ll be looking for something to cool yourself off with. It may seem like there isn’t a lot of plot in the beginning but hang in there. You get to enjoy some of the lighter, spicier parts of the book before digging into the meat of the plot. I have to say Backstage Pass by Olivia Cunning has some pretty amazing characters in it! I loved each member of the band and I’m glad that I’ll be able to read their stories!

Backstage Pass by Olivia Cunning follows the lives of the members of the Sinners band. It’s set in places all of the country and the two tour buses. It was a ton of fun (and a new experience for me) to see this kind of lifestyle. It was carried off well and really kept me entertained.

Myrna and Brian….overall they are a great couple but there were moments when I really just wanted to slap the bejeezus out of them. That’s really why this book wasn’t a 5 star for me. There were times that Brian acted like a hurt three year old and times when Myrna drove me insane with her denial. I know that this is a personal gripe. Overall, Backstage Pass is a great story with some great characters and if you like erotica with a good plot line, be sure to pick up this series!

Um. I liked it. Lots and lots of sexytime. Parts of this book irked me and I can't exactly put it into words. I'm pretty sure that I will continue to read the series, I am definitely curious about Sed...

My Synopsis:
Myrna Evans is a Human sexuality professor. She was previously married to an abusive man and has since then taken measures to make sure her ex never finds her. She is in Chicago for a teacher’s conference and after a long day of seminars and speaking Myrna is ready to head to her room to relax. On her way to her room she spots one of her favorite rock bands “Sinners” in the lounge of the hotel where the conference is taking place. Once she realizes Sinners is here she couldn’t pass on the chance to go and introduce herself and meet them.

Brian Sinclair aka Master Sinclair to his legions of fan is drunk and brokenhearted. He’s the lead guitarist and the composer for Sinners. His latest lady love has cheated on him with the lead vocalist of their group Sed Lionheart. Brian is a hopeless romantic and falls easily in love. He pretty much wears is heart on his sleeves. He’s looking for something more than just a quick fuck.

When Myrna walks up to the group she is immediately drawn to Brian even though he’s drunk. Sparks are instantly there for her. As for Brian once the drunken fog clears he notices the sexy professor noticing him. Myrna offers to take care of Brian and they spend the night together and wake up to some delicious morning sexing that inspires Brian to write some lovely music. What’s supposed to be a onetime fantasy fulfillment turns into a more complicated situation for Myrna.

My Thoughts:
There was a lot of buzz about this book and how very dirty the sexing is. Once I heard dirty sexing I was all over this book. I had to have it. Boy was I glad I read Backstage Pass. This is my kind of erotic romance. There’s a unique storyline about a rock group, sexy romantic leading man, great secondary characters and lots of burn your sheets loving. I loved Brian from the start with his broken heart and all. Who could resist someone who genuinely is a sweet person that just puts it all out there emotion wise? I loved Brian. I always knew where he stood. His character never wavered. Once he loves he loves. Myrna on the other hand was complicated. I liked Myrna! I really did, but sometimes her character just made me want to smack her. I understood where her reluctance came from but once things started getting serious her actions came off a bit heartless. I did want to high five her when she stuck up for Brian with his parents. That was a great moment.

The other band members added to this book. The relationship and the conversations between the guys had me cracking up. From the crap talking to the practical jokes they played on another. I can’t wait for Rock Hard which is Sed’s book. The bad guy of this book fell little flat for me though. Once we meet up with him after all the stuff we learned I was expecting something more climatic but it was a “meh” scene for me. Overall I enjoyed this book tremendously. I am definitely a new fan of Olivia and Sinners. Just be warned this book is not for the prudes at heart. This is up in your face dirty wet your drawers sexing which I loved.
