Where do I begin. I have to many feelings about this book. We all know by now that Rick Riordan is a master of his trade. With The Burning Maze he delivered another smart, funny, moving novel that you won't be able to put down. 
I loved how this book educates you without being very in-your-face about it. You learn quite some stuff about the Roman Empire and about its emperors. Ever since I've finished the book I'm entertaining friends and family with interesting trivia bits on the topic (whether they like it or not). You'd expect that after so many novels on Greek and Roman mythology, Riordan would run out of new stuff but he always manages to surprise me. As usual, The Burning Maze is never boring but hell of a ride. There are so many deep and touching aspects in this book, I found myself wiping tears out of my eyes several times. Another point I appreciate so much about Riordan is his ability to pair tragedy just with the right dash of humor from time to time. The Burning Maze is just as funny as it is sad.

I always enjoy Riordans books, I started the Percy Jackson Series years ago and don't seem able to stop. Normally with this kind of series they tend to get worse and it seems like the author just draggs them along because they are a good selling series *cough* shadow hunter *cough*, but Rick Riordan seems to be able to put out a really good book again and again and it's always something new and exciting and entertaining.

Now I have to admit, I wasn't the biggest fan of the Trials of Apollo Series at the beginning, because while I enjoyed the humor of Apollo's character at the beginning he tended to get a bit annoying over time, and he learned soooo slow! But he really developed nicely in this book, whilst keeping his more charming and funny side. I would not be against seeing him be more usefull instead of him being pretty much dead weight, which he is in my opinion starting to be in this book (more usefull, not more dead weight).

The story was really good, entertaning and with a lot of suspense. And a LOT of Drama! how! can! you! let! Jason! die!! I was heartbroken about Jason and Piper breaking up, but the way both talked about it, I saw a possibility of them getting back together when Piper got her life and everything sorted out, and then he dies! That is just not okay! So, I'm hoping that he can somehow come back to life in the next book, which I am going to buy as soon as possible.

So, to sum it up, really great book and a worthy follow up in the whole series.
