Full disclosure: A Duke Never Yields was a total escape read for me, which means I loved the book while I was reading it (except for maybe the ending, which just made me go, "Really? Why?"), but the more I think about it, the more I find issues.

So I'm going to get my thoughts out and then stop thinking about it. Especially the ending.

Despite my desire to read series in order---even with series whose books can technically be read as stand alones---I skipped book 2. Partly because my library only had the third book and partly because after reading A Lady Never Lies, I had little desire to read about the couple in book 2. I have no regret about that.

Because this series is partly simultaneous---events that happen in previous books are told from a different perspective here---I kind of knew some of what was going on and going to happen. Which was, honestly, reason to read faster and reason to get distracted with the desire to skip ahead.

Still. Abigail was fun. Wallingford looks like a typical rake, and he's not and that makes him intriguing, though not always particularly likable (until he becomes likable-ish again). This was the perfect book to spend a Saturday afternoon with, and I'll definitely be seeking out more Juliana Gray books in the future.

I have to say I just didn't like this book at all. The heroine was lively and quirky, but a little childlike. I thought the hero was going to be a man who was tired of this loveless life as a man-whore, but it turns out he was just a selfish man-boy who had no emotional maturity. When he starts falling for the heroine, he feels she is the only one with the strenth and desire to fix him. He knew he needed to change, but he couldn't even own up to the fact that he would need to change himself until the very, very end and we don't spend enough time with him to see how much he might have grown up.

The storyline involving haunted castles and breaking curses didn't even drawn me in past the unappealing characters.

I haven't read any other Juliana Gray so I don't know if this is her typical storyline or not.

I was so looking forward to this story, but I was disappointed in the characters. This book took me too long to read becuase I had to keep forcing myself back to it. It was just not for me.
