Хорошая серия. Ни великолепная, ни шикарная, ни плохая, ни ужасная, а именно хорошая. Этакий твердый середнячок, который понравится фанатам «Перси Джексона» и «Академии Вампиров». Серия представляет собой смесь мифов и типичный приключенческий YA, читается буквально взахлеб (благодаря легкости и простоте), но и желания перечитывать определенно не возникает.



Вторая книга серии также значительно уступает первой. Здесь больше шаблонов, уровень предсказуемости – Бог, а героиня на протяжении книги проявляла черты характера, которые я безумно не люблю в книжных героинях. Однако, если вам просто нужно расслабиться и прочитать, что-то незамысловатое, то эта серия создана для этого.

Итак. Кто-то пытается убить Гвен Фрост. И она ожидала этого, потому что… ну знаете она чемпион Ники – главного врага, противника норвежского Бога Зла – Локи. Ни того Локи в которого все влюблены после фильмов Марвел, а того, который хочет утопить весь мир в крови и хаосе.



Именно Ника много лет назад привела Пантеон Богов к Победе и склонила Локи к поражению. Сейчас Плохой Парень заточен в мифической тюрьме и как никогда близок к освобождению. И ради этого Жнецы Хаоса – верные слуги Локи сделают все: будут убивать, приводить жертвоприношения…. Но самое главное, им нужно убить Чемпиона Ники. Что снова нас приводит к Гвен Фрост.



С таким сюжетом, в принципе понятно ху из Злодей и кто его слуги. Даже до физического появления самих героев. Так, что когда этот самый Плохой Мальчик появляется, а автор в довесок еще и, практически напрямую говорит, «ЭЙ, если вы еще не догадались, то этот парень *фейерверк и указание пальцами на героя* ЖНЕЦ ХАОСА!!!! Нежданчик да? Мухааххахахах». Просто РУКАЛИЦО. Авторы, солнышки мои, если вы вплетаете в свои книги детективную линию, постарайтесь ее хоть немного сделать непредсказуемой. Ну, хоть немного! Нехорошо это, когда читатель сидит и буквально кричит героине «Ну ты дура! Слепая! Разуй глаза!».

Также в этой книге, немного раздражала Гвен. Она все еще мне нравится, как героиня, и хорошо, что она под конец книги отрастила, наконец яйца (фигурально естественно, физические она все еще девочка и все еще любит мальчиков), но до того, как это произошло ей стоило порой включать мозг. Все эти ее размышления:
1. «Я справлюсь сама. Я могу быть сильной и никомууууууу не расскажу, что меня дважды пытались убить».
И
2. «Я просто цыганская девочка, которая ни на что не способна, НО все равно никому ничего не расскажу».
3. «Я такая одинокая. Мне так одиноко в этой Академии. Я здесь чужая».
4. «Я – Чемпион Ники! Ну, непросто так же она меня выбрала!»

Довольно-таки подбешивали. Во-первых, я не люблю когда героини не могут адекватно оценить свои возможности и думают, что могут справиться со всем сами. Во-вторых, мне не нравится, когда герои книги с детства обладая способностями, только в 17-18 лет решают, что «ой, а на что еще я способна? Прикольно то как, пора изучать свои силы». Блин. Можно ли мне хоть раз героиню, которая к этому возрасту уже более-менее владеет свой силой или, по крайней мере, разумно оценивает ее потенциал?

С другой стороны, хорошо, что под конец Гвен начала проявлять твердость характера и решительность. Мне понравилось, что она решила убить при встрече Чемпиона Локи, ни смотря на то, что убийство… ну это плохо. Никакой жалости и сомнения.

Я не знала как, не знала когда, но я найду чемпиона Локи - эту девчонку-жнеца. И тогда я воткну в её грудь меч.

Вперед Гвен! Главное не проявляй потом ненужной жалости и нытья «я не моуг уподобиться Жнецам, я не убийца!».

Что насчет любовной линии. Ну конечно герои все ходят вокруг да около. Это было бы слишком просто для YA, если б Гвен и Логан просто кинулись бы в объятия друг друга и стали страстно целоваться. NO. У них должны быть проблемы с сближением с другими людьми, тяжкий груз печали и девиз по жизни «я не могу никого к себе подпускать, но я люблю тебя… ах нет пойди прочь, я причиню тебе лишь боль» и т.д. В общем вы поняли. Радует, что под конец книги герои все таки решили, что стоит хотя бы попытаться.

И да. Отдельное фи богам. Их позиция просто убивает меня. А позиция их такова. Мы – заключили Локи в тюрьму. Локи опасен и скоро вырвется на свободу, и начнется кровопролитие и жесть. Вы, все должны остановить его последователей ну и... самого Бога. А мы тут посидим в сторонке, потому что договорились не вмешиваться в дела людей. Наше вмешательство может уничтожить мир людей! Локи конечно его тоже может уничтожить, но это уже ваша проблема. Обращайтесь за советами, подсказками. НО помните, что напрямую мы не можем ничего говорить. Сами ищите последнюю печать и сами берегите ее от разрушения. И помните, это важно! Иначе Локи освободится! Но вы сами с этим справляйтесь.

Ну ваще блин. Логика просто нереальная. Послала бы я таких Богов далеко и подальше.

We join Gwen Frost and friends on the school-wide winter carnival trip. Gwen must once again battle for her life, battle with her feelings, and battle with her conscience. Gwen experiences a lot of growth in this book as a warrior. I like that Gwen was growing into her role and becoming stronger and more self reliant. She also appeared to accept her duties with more conviction than before. Finally, Gwen gets some luck in the social arena. Her number of friends at Mythos doubles by the end of this book. Yeah! This girl needs a good circle of friends.

I enjoy this series. My one complaint: too much info from the previous book is rehashed in this book.

Overall: fun, action-packed, with a little romance and plenty of friendship.

I really enjoyed the first book of this series, Touch of Frost, and expected to like Kiss of Frost too. I did like Kiss of Frost, except that it felt like it was the first book in the series rather than the second. I've been trying to place my finger on why it felt like that.

I think it felt like a first book because I found not much happened in way of progress, Gwen didn't progress a whole lot in her powers or her skills. I mean she did get better and new things happened but not by much. The progress of the story felt like it was nearly the exact same story as the first book, the same layout, the same plot, just a different location. The ending however leaves the third book open to pushing forward whereas this book felt like it was stuck back at the start.

I enjoyed this book because this is an enjoyable series but there were a couple of things that annoyed me. First off: The romance. I felt like Logan and Gwen didn't interact enough in this story. She thought about him and saw him but they spoke a whole of one time in the whole book before the ending. It annoyed me because I still felt like they were pretty much strangers.

Second thing: The use of the word 'Froufrou' and the statement 'And they think I'm crazy' were overused to the point that I swear I could have played a drinking game and had a shot every time they were used. It drove me a tad crazy every time I saw them.

Third thing: The way it recapped the last book. At the beginning it intertwined the story and the recap so there wasn't a huge info dump but it was so obvious to me. I felt like it didn't flow quite as well, I just kept thinking 'And this is where they're reminding readers of what happened in the last book' or 'And this is where they're explaining the world's history again'. Maybe it was so obvious to me because I read this book straight after I finished the first book so the story was fresh in my mind. Still I just felt like it didn't flow as well and it stilled the pace of the story.

I'm looking forward to the third because I am excited to see something else actually happen in this world.

I love Mythology fiction and this is one of the best I've read and I couldn't put the book down and I read the books in the whole series as fast as I could. I love the main character and everybody else in the series, especially grandma Frost.

I would recommend this series to anybody.

Okay, so I will say this was still a lot of fun, but I had a couple of issues with it, similar to the first book.

First, Gwen being a total bitch on occasions is a bit trying. Like, stop thinking everyone is trying to be mean to you all the time. I kind of get it, because part of the point is her realizing she has been a judgmental bitch, but it's still annoying.

Second, the villain was so obvious I could spot him from two continents away. This is the kind of balance a book needs to strike that is missing here: a book needs to be clever enough with its hints that upon a first read you are confused and uncertain of his or her identity, but upon a second read, it suddenly makes sense and all the hints are revealed. Of course, that's not an easy task to do, but I do wish Mythos Academy was a little more subtle with its clues.

Third, the romance is weaker on this one. Lots of the fun Gwen and Logan's interactions had on the first book is missing between the exaggerated angst about how much she likes him but them not being together. Bring back the snark, please!

The one good thing out of this: Oliver. I hope we get more bonding with him in the series!
