In Bully, KC seems to be carefree, fun and is opposite of Tate's personality. She seems to be adventurous and wild, but reading Falling Away it seems that KC is one of the "clumsy", naive-type of girl which is super annoying. It seems that the attitude she shown in Bully is Juliet's not KC. I also don't like how Jaxon is too wild and a douche, hurting KC over and over again. What I like in this story is we get to be updated with Jared and Tate's love story.

When I read Rival, the third book in Penelope Douglas's Fall Away series, I fell immediately in love. There's just something about a love-hate relationship that makes me swoon and Madoc and Fallon had that in spades. So I was ridiculously excited to receive Falling Away, the fourth book in the series, from Netgalley, to review. I knew it was Jax and K.C.'s story and I was excited for it to be just as amazing as Rival.

The novels in the Fall Away series all seem to be based around the theme of falling in love, despite hating the other, and there's lots of bedroom stuff, and fighting and making up etc and while I absolutely loved it in Rival, it felt somewhat off in Falling Away - at least, for me. There was just something about the novel that I couldn't get fully on board with.

I didn't really love anything major about Falling Away. Sure, I liked the characters, and yes I liked the fire that ignited any time KC and Jax were in the same room together, and yes in the early stages it was quite exciting seeing Jax un-do KC but the more the book wore on, and the more they fought and made up, the more tired I got, because it was exhausting. Jax was a douchebag for quite a lot of the novel, and it's hard to love a douchebag. His actions weren't always of someone who really, really likes the girl he's with, and he could be cruel, but not in the same way that it worked in Rival.

I also could barely keep up with KC's changing emotions. One minutes she's angry as hell as Jax, and telling him to get lost and the next they're making out or she's brushing his hair. I was confused. I didn't understand how she could switch her emotions like the click of her fingers. Whereas I knew Madoc and Fallon loved each other in Rival, it wasn't the same with KC and Jax. Jax continually said it was a summer thing, and it didn't feel real.

It also seemed like the KC/Juliet storyline came out of nowhere. This could be because I haven't read Bully or Until You, but it was just bizarre. It didn't feel right, in a New Adult story. It was a bit too heavy for what is a quite light (ish) New Adult series.

I just... I wanted to love Falling Away, I wanted it to be as awesome as Rival, but I never felt wholly connected to Jax or KC (especially not KC, who had a bit of an identity crisis). I didn't find their saga as interesting as Fallon and Madoc's, though it was very nice to see Fallon, Madoc, Tate and Jared again.

I'm glad I read Falling Away, because I was super interested in KC and Jax's story, but it just didn't like up to the awesome that was Rival, in my eyes.
