I’ve never read one of Dana Fredsti’s books but The Spawn of Lilith sounded like it would be right up my street. Supernatural beings in Hollywood? A kickass stuntwoman? YES, PLEASE. It’s also the first in Dana’s new series, I think?? Well, it must be, considering the ending so there will be at least a sequel at some point that I will be picking up for sure. I didn’t love this book as much as I wanted to, but it was a damn entertaining read.

Probably my only issue with The Spawn of Lilith is it’s not quite clear on its mythology, even after finishing the book I’m baffled by what Lee is compared to Lilith and what happened to Lilith, it was all just a bit waffle-like, without any clear instructions/answers. I think because it came so late in the day, there were so few pages to hash it all out, which was a shame. It just needed a bit more history, because I was baffled. However, everything leading up to that was pretty great, actually. I loved Lee, who is a heroine I can really get behind, because she’s fearless, mostly. I liked Sean and Seth, although Seth’s attitude baffled me. I suspect it is because he likes Lee, as referenced by one of Lee’s new friends, but all the same? He’s kind of a douchebag. There’s a fine line between love and douchebagginess. JUST SAYING, SETH. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, SETH.

I loved the whole concept of supernatural beings in Hollywood, and it also made me wonder: IS HOLLYWOOD SECRETLY FILLED WITH THE SUPERNATURAL? Do Sam and Dean taken down HOLLYWOOD STARS every week? Is that why no actor ever ages?!?! And Dana should know she was a B-movie actress (I have no idea what that actually means). All joking aside, I loved seeing how stunt-people worked, how Lee worked and, like I said, I loved Lee. She really is the driving force for this book and she’s a pretty incredible (and tolerant) human. I’m super intrigued to see where the next book, and all the revelations at the end of this book, take us.
