An accidental pregnancy and a political scandal for the next congressional golden boy provide the backdrop of Molly O’Keefe’s Indecent Proposal, the next story in the Boys of Bishop series. This story is part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone. Harrison Montgomery is running for office but a one night stand with thirty two year old divorcee Ryan Kaminski and he finds himself scrambling for damage control from the pregnancy that resulted.
One of the most interesting aspects of this book is the exploration of a romance with a public political persona that needs to be cultivated. Ryan’s strength was admirable, she suffers the loss of her job for sleeping with a customer and has to reconcile Harrison the politician with “Harry” her one night stand, added to the fact that his family is so appalled by her lack of political pedigree the can barely contain their disdain. I found her to be refreshing, while I found Harrison to be pompous and arrogant. He was so off-putting I almost found his redemption suspect, but you can’t help but feel sympathy for his background. I did appreciate the way they truly tried to work through their issues to find a middle ground for their child, albeit going about it in an unconventional manner due to the nature of Harrison’s job. I look forward to reading the rest of the Boys of Bishop series!
