I didn't enjoy The Infinite Sea as much as the first book. It just felt really, really slow. Or, not really slow, since I flew through it, but more like nothing was happening. Once again, it jumps between the various characters. This time we've got Cassie, Ringer, Poundcake, Evan, and Ben. It was harder to tell who was telling the story this time though. It took me several pages to figure out who was speaking when it would switch, since the sections aren't labeled and the chapters don't open with any obvious clues. Evan's and Poundcake's parts were easier to decipher, since they're in third person and rarely came about.
A lot of the plot is just the teens deciding if or when to leave the hotel they've holed up in. Cassie is waiting for Evan, even though I'm not entirely sure why. No one trusts him, but he's different, so maybe they should trust him? Or at least get some information out of him? I don't know. They also want to move to the safety of the caves, but they have to wait for Ringer to return and confirm that it's safe, but she obviously gets taken by the aliens, who then know their location and continue to play games with them. Get a move on!
Then the last third or so of The Infinite Sea is all Ringer's POV as she's being held captive. It was quite boring. This is where we learn one shocking piece of information though. It doesn't answer my main question though. That still stands, but now I want to know even more why this is happening! I was also kind of annoyed at the villain giving Ringer bits and pieces of the puzzle. Sure he can use her, but I had a feeling it was more likely she would escape and tell the others what she learned. However, most of this section is Ringer playing chess and "chaseball" with the dude who brings her meals and stuff. Another poorly developed kind of romance that I just did not care about.
The Infinite Sea definitely suffers from middle book syndrome. We get no answers and the characters don't really go anywhere. Yes, we learn one new thing. It's a big thing, but not really worth enough to make this sequel exciting. I'm definitely compelled to read the final book though, because what the heck!?

A lot of the story seemed to be centered around a character named Ringer,who is my new favorite person.
It was a well written story that picks up right where the first book left off.
I think what I liked best is the fact that"some"people died (I'll not divulge who).

One of my favorite things about this is the writing and the dialogue. Some of these character say the coolest stuff and it set my mind running, even the villains get some pretty epic lines. I love the intense emotion that Yancey pours into every chapter, making you understand and feel exactly what the main character does. The odd downside is that this book is more about coming to terms and learning than it is about progress, it’s very much a middle book but I didn’t find that to be too bad of a thing though it was a bit slow in places.
Some of my favorite chapters were Ringer’s pov. She’s tough and analytical, and she is willing to do what she has to in order to get to where she needs to be. Not to mention we find out much of the plot from her storylines and much of the action is with her as well. I loved the new twists that we’re treated to and I can’t wait to see how everything comes together in the next book! The outcome could be really awesome or really bleak, and I’m excited that I’m not sure which one it will be. Yancey pulls no punches and isn’t afraid to put a character to the test, and he isn’t afraid to make that character lose.
The audio narration is fantastic as well. I enjoyed both narrators and appreciated that they got both a female and male to do the different point of views.
The Infinite Sea is a middle book that focuses on the mental game of the Others, and how far they are truly willing to go. It does suffer from some middle book fatigue, but overall I found it to be engaging and well worth the wait

Reseña Primer Libro "La Quinta Ola"
Reseña sin ningún tipo de spoiler
Una de las cosas que no hago últimamente es leer una saga seguida, empiezo el primer libro y por más que me guste mucho el siguiente demora en llegar a mis listas de lectura, no importa a veces que el libro me haya encantado o que toda la serie ya esté publicada, puedo aplazar la lectura. Raro, lo sé. Sólo que yo tengo una debilidad: los desastres y los problemas. Y ¿qué más tiene problemas, desastres y angustia que una invasión alienígena? Lo maravilla de los ebooks es que no tengo que esperar hasta que el libro llegue (si es que llega) a mi país o la editorial se apure en traducirlo, por lo que inmediatamente después de terminar The 5th Wave, devoraba The Infinite Sea.
Esta segunda parte es mucho más delgada que La Quinta Ola, me sorprendió y decepcionó un poco porque quería pasar al menos dos días en compañía de Cassie y todos los demás, y al final solo pude pasar unas pocas horas con ellos. Claro, eso no quiere decir que no hayan valido completamente la pena. No quiero revelar nada a los que no leyeron el primer libro, así que si no leyeron el primer libro, al menos lean mi reseña de The 5th Wave, y luego regresen. ¿Ya está?
En la reseña del libro anterior dije que había algo que no me convenció del todo en la historia ¿Por qué los aliens no atacan y acaban con todos los humanos de una vez? ¿Es solo crueldad? Aunque mi duda no está del todo resuelta, hay una revelación en El Mar Infinito que no sé qué tan cruel es o qué tan bueno desde algún punto de vista, supongo que desde el más romántico (y no me refiero al romántico de cursi, sino al de idealismo). Solo diré que todas esas objeciones que tuve con la trama bélica del primer libro fueron apaciguadas en esta secuela.

Una ya está acostumbrada a que las distopías acaben con nuestros nervios, es como un requisito si quieres ser una buena distopía. Yo terminé riéndome con The Infinite Sea, no porque sea malo, le puse 4 de 5 estrellas, sino porque era eso o ponerme a llorar. ¿CÓMO ES POSIBLE RANCEY? ¿CÓMO? ¿DESPUÉS DE TODO? ¿CÓMO TE ATREVES A REVIVIR UNA DE LAS SENSACIONES MÁS CRUELES QUE ME DEJÓ OTRO FAMOSO LIBRO DISTÓPICO PERO NO MENCIONARÉ PORQUE NO QUIERO QUE CREAN QUE LOS COMPARÓ? ¿EH?
Si han visto algún programa de asesinos seriales (Criminal Minds ♥), mencionan que los asesinos seriales (algunos) tienden a entrar a la casa de su próxima víctima y hacerles notar su presencia, no lastimarlos en ese momento, sino sólo quitarles la sensación de seguridad; porque si no puedes sentirte completamente seguro en tu casa ¿dónde más? Te preguntarás a que viene todo esto, te diré que el señor Rick Yancey destruyó mi sensación de seguridad. Varias veces.

El escritor repite su fórmula de cambiar de perspectiva, solo que esta vez usa a otros personajes y el maldito lo hace tan cruelmente. Lo bueno es que seguimos teniendo como una de las voces principales a Cassiopea, una de las voces más ligeras y entretenidas de todas las distopías que leí hasta ahora ¿No sé si te has dado cuenta que los narradores de distopías son bien densos y estresados? Sea hombre o mujer pero Cassie no, por eso me gusta mucho leerla porque al menos para mí se me hace muy relajada.
Ahora este Gato está desesperada por el tercer libro, que solo sé se publica en 2015 y quieren que esperé. Estoy segura que Rick Yancey está riendo en su casa rascándose la panza.

- Aliens, danger, human struggle and bonds between unlikely allies are all aspects I love about the Fifth Wave trilogy. Infinite Sea shares multiple perspectives from key characters and picks up shortly after the climatic ending of Fifth Wave. The world is terrifying at times and no one, I mean no one can be trusted. I love how it kept me on edge, and at times holding my breath.
- The gang has made base in a hotel infested with rats. *god help us* The plan is to wait for Evan, and Cassie refuses to lose faith. Ringer gives us our main pov, but we get those of Evan, Cassie and a new character. While folks weren’t happy about all the time spent with Ringer, I have to say the girl is kickass and I enjoyed this aspect.
- Infinite Sea, like its predecessor is strong on details. Yancey vividly paints this bleak dark world. The next wave is a horrific one and it is clear these aliens will stop at nothing. The developments concerning Evan was interesting and I loved that Yancey took time to further develop secondary characters. We get answers and learn their next move, but with those tidbits came a whole basket of questions. I for one cannot wait for the final novel expected to be released in 2015.
Decaffeinated Aspect:
- We jump right into the story and between the nicknames, changing pov’s and time between books it took me a little time to settle in.
- While I loved the multiple pov’s it often left me feeling pulled between the threads and occasionally stopping to double check whose narration it was.
- Could there be a triangle emerging? *GRRR*
- Despite intense scenes, and some answers there was very little movement in the book. It felt more like a fleshing out, setting the scene, bridge building novel.

The 5th Wave series is the ultimate in post apocalyptic young adult. Our world is under attack from a superior race that are wiping out humanity. The genocide comes in waves. The first wave plunged our planet into darkness. The second brought earthquakes and tsunamis to cleanse the Earth. The third wave spread a virus amongst the population and in the fourth wave comes the Silencers, being that have taken on the form of human soldiers to destroy the weak. The fifth may just be the most horrific, human sacrifices.
The Infinite Sea is explosive, it picks up shortly after the heart stopping end of book one where the small group of survivors now await their fate. After the fourth wave, humanity realised that they are fighting an enemy that look and sound human. The invaders true self being a conscious that inhabits a human body, and leaves us unsure of who to trust. Following the perspective of several characters, we learn more about the surviving teens and how they came to be part of the group. One in particular was incredibly emotional and paved the way for an emotional parting with one character.
The premise is incredible, the execution is phenomenal. Rick Yancey is an absolute genius who has created a terrifying fictional scenario that sets a new standard in young adult novels. He's a master of taking what is seemingly a simple storyline, incorporating stunning metaphors and lovable characters that readers can relate to. He's simply brilliant. He could quite possibly be the author of the young adult generation.
There are no words to describe how immaculate this series is. I demand you read it.
The Infinite Wave will leave readers emotionally spent, myself included. I need a hug.

THE INFINITE SEA was definitely (to me) a weaker second novel. The writing was really great, but the plot itself didn't feel quite as fleshed out as The 5th Wave.
Also, maybe it was because of the fucking twist.
With this novel, we primarily hear from Ringer, and because she wasn’t a character I really cared about in The 5th Wave, it did take me a little time to warm up to her. Once I did though, I was happy for the change of POV. Her story and what she goes through in this was an incredible journey. She goes through a whole hell of a lot in THE INFINITE SEA, and fucking survives it all. She’s one tough broad.
We also got to see some background on Evan which I liked, including meeting a pyscho-bitch alien named Grace. I was happy to hear that back story, because Grace did become more than just some weird nemesis that comes back into Evan’s life (for seemingly no apparent reason than to add some pseudo-love triangle between Cassie, Evan and Grace). I actually don’t get why she was brought into this story...unless…she’s not as dead as I assume she is when Poundcake blows the hotel.
We also get background/flashbacks from Poundcake, which I thought were unnecessary. I would have rather had those pages for plot development, other character development and fleshing out the story more fully.
I would have rather seen what Sam was feeling being reunited with Cassie, yet still clinging to Ben, but we didn’t hear from him at all. Or hear more from Ben, but we didn’t. And, I really wish we heard more from Cassie and Evan.
Now, with finding out about this twist during Ringer’s story, I’m looking forward to seeing what the hell is coming up next. Because, now I don’t know. I felt like I kind of knew where this story would go in The 5th Wave, but THE INFINITE SEA just completely fucked up most of my theories.
