The issues these characters are dealing with (loss, grief, aging, quality of life) is almost suffocating at times. Yet there's a lightness present in this book, too. Davis uses these characters to remind us that the darkness of our problems can consume us, but it doesn't have to. That grief and happiness aren't mutually exclusive. Millie is the perfect protagonist for this novel; her age, the way she behaves and reacts, the way she sees the world, gives the adults around her (and we readers) an opportunity to explore uncomfortable feelings and questions. This was a quirky and entertaining read about a delightful little girl, abandoned by her mother but protected by fortune in quite remarkable ways. I ached for her each time she left a sign for her mom saying In Here Mum. I love the delightful way she tryed to get people attention that she was in deed trying to wait for her mum. I love karl and agatha as well i felt like i was reading the screen play to a comedy of errors movie. Though the ending did leave me kind of wanting. A quick light fun read.
