The novel as its name suggests, refers to a group of misogynists are saying: "The great wisdom of man is no need for women", and meet regularly in "Villa Serena" Prince Lubimoff property, the main protagonist, along with Alice and the Duchess kept a romance rather "quaint", despite the misogyny of the first. The novel is at heart a criticism against problem gambling and its consequences, a curious note is the view of one character, possessed of a kind of amulet called "The Rosary of Satan" who used to play in the casino and is a string like everyone else, but of red and black with tens.
