Fling has Aston's trademark humor, and I laughed out loud more than once. There was also a very relatable work-place romance, characters I wanted to spend more time with, and some glorious hotness!
I had already met Sandra and Gabe, very briefly, in Right by the same author, and I loved seeing what they were up to after Everly's shenanigans at the New Year's Party in Fling! Sandra is the kind of efficient administrative assistant I'm sure every boss would like to have! She does have a naughty side, though, but she doesn't let it out to play at work. Apart from that one time during a quarterly meeting when her best friend, Preston, has changed a quiz about the meeting to a sex-quiz instead. And it ends up in just the wrong (or right - depending on how you look at it, I guess) person's hands. And Sandra is sure Gabe knows straight away that the quiz is hers.
Gabe is the CFO of the company, sure of himself, good-looking, never in want for a woman's company if he feels like it. And that's just great with him - at least he thinks it is. Fling kind of proves him wrong, though, as after what he thought would be a one-night-stand with Sandra, he just can't get her out of his head. (Do you hear Kylie Minogue singing now? - you're welcome!) The dialogues between Gabe and Sandra, and also between Gabe an Preston or Gabe and Sawyer were hilarious more often than not. And I kept nodding because I could totally see people acting and talking like that.
Hot, sweet, funny, and did I say hot? All in a fast-paced little package that is Fling. The story is written in dual points of views, so we get both Sandra's and Gabe's perspective. First person prseent tense worked really well for it, too. Plus, for such a short story, it packed a punch and left me satisfied. All the while also having me all revved up for Trust which is being released next week...
I take another peek at Gabe. He looks a little bored himself, truthfully.
Smart turns me on. Sometimes Gabe wears these thick-rimmed glasses, kinda nerdish. Very Carlk Kent. They drive me to the brink of distraction. and I do not like to be distracted. Focus is the name of my game. Focused, reliable Sandra.
"Sex, Sandra. Sex was my workout," he says, jabbing the down button with his finger. "Liam's trying to knock me up."
"Um?" I blurt out, surprised. Preston is a gay man, so it doesn't exactly work that way.
"We're starting the adoption process." Preston laughs. "But why should we be denied the fun part?"
"Shut up," Sawyer interrupts. "She's not really your type."
"Beautiful?" I question.
"Sweet," he replies.
She is sweet, he's right about that. I think about the paper burning a hole in my pocket and wonder again if it was hers. I'd like it to be hers. I think sweet Sandra has a hidden dirty side, and I'd really like to uncover it.
